Hi all, my next purchase is a Remington 700 SPS Tactical 308 Rifle, the thing is i don't want to spend a fortune on a scope! So i am looking for experienced opiniones on price conscious scopes.
thank you
Drae:)

Nikon buckmaster with mildot satisfied me for a couple of years before trading up.

Great glass for the money IMO.

Just by the best scope your budget allows..........don't cheap out on optics........Your scope should cost you at least as much as your rifle did..........;)

As mentioned above, if we knew how much you want to spend, you would get better replies to your question.......

Like to know just who came up with this magic formula? FS

High end scopes hold there value, i use Nightforce, but honestly the bushnell elite series are getting good reviews. Take a close look at them.

I guess this isn't the time to state that the Tasco Varmint on top of my VTR still works perfectly since the day I took it off my .22LR whereas my Bushnell has been sent back for warranty repair :p

It isn't really a "magic" formula, or something etched in stone.......;)

In my experience scopes and mounts are the most over-looked items........

If you are going to spend money on a decent/quality rifle, buy a comparable scope.........I see Too many people buying cheap scopes, and then complain when the scope fogs/won't keep or return to zero/gets damaged from a light bump/has reticle shift.........

Personally, I wouldn't spend less then $1000.00 on a scope for any of my rifles..........

Most of the guys I shoot with or compete against have roughly the same amount of $$$$$$ invested in their scopes/mounts as they do their rifles...........but we take what we do very seriously.......we are on the extreme end of things.....;)

Thanks for the replies, as far as price no more than $300

Price is important, but what you plan on doing with the rifle/scope is just as important to know for us to recommend a decent scope.

Don't let anyone tell you that you can't get a good scope for 250-300$, thats BS.

Bushnell Elite 3200 series, a nice variable scope if you plan on hunting, a fixed 10x tactical if you plan on shooting mostly at paper/varmnit targets.

you can also have a look at Mueller, Vortex, and Falcon scopes, although it might be a little more coin than what you had in mind.

Check out the Vortex Diamondback line. Falls in your price range and has an excellent warranty, and the warranty service department is in Canada.

I was actually going to say that the Tasco 6-24X42 Varmint/Target isn't what people think it is; it's actually a really good scope. I have one on top of my .308 Sportco, and I have been shooting .5 MOA or better so far out to 400m. It has mildots and hand-adjustable turrets under the caps. I have repeatedly zoomed the power change up and back down while watching through a bore-sighter, and there is no shift in point of aim at all, all reticle adjustments are crisp and repeatable. The optics aren't as clear as some of the big-boys, but considering the fact that you aren't using it (most likely) for dawn and dusk hunting, it won't make much difference. I also personally think that it would be fun to hold your own in a competition with the Nightforce, Leupold, Zeiss, etc. - topped rifles, just to piss 'em off. BTW, I don't just go for cheap scopes, my .375 wears a Zeiss, I just happen to think that the Tasco model I speak of is really quite adequate.

I have a Tasco 3.5 x 10 x 50 Tactical on my Savage 10FP (308)great scope and I only paid around $80.00 at Wholesale sports. However I only use it for paper punching at a 100 yds. For the money great scope, my other rifles are sporting Leupolds which are good and expensive.

i just tried out 2 reasonable scopes well under $200

i recently mounted a bushnell trophy 3-9 on my no.1 7mag. it has a separate focus ring for reticle which is nice. 9 power needs a clean lens as rain or moisture really distorts. it has taken a few hundred rounds and never loses a zero. the sticker came off the turret cover. but a real bright scope for 1st light. my favorite scope for everything but the crappiest of weather for $130

and i also mounted a 4x burris timberline on my tikka .338 fed. awesome scope in rain and snow but not as bright a busnhnell in low light( mainly due to smaller lense i think).
have laid rifle down in wet grass and had scope covered in pine needle and water and could still takes shots. 80 rounds so far and i took about 10 for new rifle/scope to hold a zero. paid $150 from a US dealer.

i use the tikka/burris for long walks/stalks as scope can take the debris, and it is very lite. but i use my ruger/busnell if im waiting for animal being pushed to me or road hunting
