I always forget to check if anyone at the range are using shooters gloves.
Are they frowned upon? Do they lessen your skill or hinder your own skill development?
Or are they worth it?

I am getting my hand near the beaver tail torn up(not from the slide) so I am considering gloves
But am wondering if this will make me dependent on them or cause me not to grip properly etc...
Any input would be appreciated :)

Use a set of "Mechanix" gloves my son bought me. Don't use them all the time but get a firm and probably better grip on a gun when I do use them.

No harm in always using them if you find them comfortable.

.... wuss.....

:D

I shoot a lot of different style handguns and the ONLY time I wore gloves was when I started out with black powder cap and ball guns after reading about the likelyhood of chain fire events. I never wore gloves for any other handgun and never had an issue.

Mind you when I shot a friend's Walther PPK and a PROPER 1911 with the original style beaver tail I did leak a little red stuff in both cases......

..... So just what sort of gun are you shooting that is causing YOU to leak?

+1 for Mechanix as well.

I use them during most of the winter and for a surer grip at other times.

Bulk and cheap on ebay.

wearing gloves are a personal preference. unless its cold weather in an outdoor situation. give them a try and see if you like them

It's with my s&w 1911... But I kind of noticed that my kimbers are cutting in as we'll, but that might be because I haven't let
It heal up since the first time it began. It doesn't so much hurt, but I do have to readjust my grip which I don't to make a habit of when
I speed shoot or try to hit a couple targets at once.

Gloves are good, especially when its cold out! I find my grip to feel superior with gloves as well. That said, I still only use them in the winter. Mechanix or motocross have been good for me.

Wear the gel padded Mechanix glove for 44 mag full load and 50 mag. Good news is the gel helped cushion the jolt to the palm and v joint; bad news is after a box of 50 my wrist hurt for several days.

Quite a few years back, when I competed in "Snubbie" Competitions with a 2" S&W M15, I found that slamming the ejector rod quickly to eject fired casing hurt the palm of my left hand. I went to Cdn Tire, purchased a set of cheap cycling gloves with the fingers cut off and a padded palm. They worked like a charm anytime I did any "Action" shooting matches with my snubbie. There are moments where gloves are a detriment to safe handling and others where they enhance it. Depends on your situation.

There are times when gloves just make sense.. this is one of them

I have thought about Kevlar gloves after seeing some of the pictures on here of rounds going off in the mag or chamber and the gun coming apart in the shooters hands...
