Do you take more than one gun hunting...

Since deer season openned I take scatter gun and a rifle with me whenever I go duck hunting, I just put my orange in my pack. I've seen to many deer sneaking through the marsh to let one get away.

Lately I've been taking one muzzle loader and one centerfire, scoped, when I go out for big game.

When I go at our moose hunting camp, I have two big game rifles, + a shotgun for grouse, a 223 for coyotes & a 22 for plinking when the moose is on the tri-pod.
When I hunt small game daily, I have a shotgun for birds, the 223 for 'yotes, and a 22lr for squirrels

Always 2 rifles for moose. Would love to take a 410 also. But with fly in hunts you have to watch total weight. Two boxes of ammo first rifle 1 for the spare. The 3006 is scoped the spare 3030 is iron sites.

The extra rifle paid off as one guy slipped and cracked his scope on rocks. It was a nice 7mm up to then.

On a mulie hunt right now about 3 hrs from home, 3 day hunt. I brought a Model Seven 308 for walking with, a M700 6.5-06 for sitting where the shots can be 400 yds, and an a-bolt micro in 25 WSSM just because.

For deer, always carry my 7x57 and my 870 with slug barrel and red dot for close encounters.

If I go up north for a week I take my guide gun with peep sites, a scoped rifle and a shot gun for grouse.

Around here, I usually just take one because we are always close to home if there is a serious problem but also due to the fact I hunt with a partner all the time so I could just use his.

This year, however, we will also take the guide gun in addition to our regular scoped rifles, just for poops and giggles.

Bit of a side issue to the topic at hand but it does sort of fit, a combination gun. A 'number' of years back, on my way to the B.C. interior for a Moose hunt, I stopped in for a visit and a one day 'look' for Deer with my brother in law. That day it was raining and really blowing so we basically went for a ride. I took the rifle I'd brought for Moose and he took along an OU combination gun which I hadn't paid much attention to as it wasn't a firearm I was interested in. He spotted a ditch chicken and stopped, got out and shot it. Almost immediately a small Mule Deer buck we hadn't seen broke from cover, up went the gun and he got that as well. Now I'm interested!! I ended up buying one, then stupidly sold it and a couple years ago, got another. A Brno ZH 304 in 7x57R/12ga. with another set of barrels, 12ga/12ga.

Thanks guy. Under the right conditions, such as those walks on old logging skid roads on breezy days, it's a sweetheart to have with you. I still haven't got a 'double' like my brother in law, but one day....... .

I almost always bring a backup gun.

Step #1. Buy a Mauser.

Step #2. Make sure said Mauser has backup iron sights.

Step #3. Go hunt.

Follow the above formula and you won't need a back-up gun. I've seen/heard of too many instances where there were scope issues before a hunt to NOT have backup sights on a rifle.
