So, I think I'll do just fine with the .300WM.![]()
Exactly, either will get the job done. My load is not in the manual. I use H1000 and it works like a dream. My point was that I have safely surpassed the maximum listed velocity (which I have found to be optimistic in most cases) for the weatherby using the 220gr partition, so I don't really see the "real world" advantage of the wby. That is why I voted "no real advantage"boonerbuck said:Hold on a minute, you are comparing a chrono'd velocity to a listed one???? That's hardly all things equal.
My Nosler 5th lists the 300 Win 220 gr at a top velocity of 2757 but the majority don't reach 2700 fps. Wby tops at 2840. You are right about the 24" barrel.
Maybe the 220 was not the best bullet for an example but you should be able to push the Wby...with all things equal, up to 200 fps more with the 180 gr X's hand loads. I've loaded for both.
Facing a charging bear, 200 fps/500 ftlbs may not make much of a difference but it would make me more confident.![]()
I've only brought up an exception and not a preference. Either one will get the job done.
