Does anybody make a 35 whelen.

If you're not opposed to semi auto you could look at Remington 750. Quite a bit cheaper then a Cooper

To be honest I'd prefer some thing other than a semi. I know Rem made there pumps in whelen a while back but they were discontinued as was the 750.

From rem's website. Unless you know somebody who has one in stock.

35 Whelen 7.5 22" 42 5/8" 16" Discontinued 27063

Epps have a few H&R singles in 35 Whelen and 35Rem for $277 to just over $300. Cheap way into the 35cal experience. Don't know how good quality control is at that company these days but the model is good if built right.

I have a .35 whelen in a Rem. 7600 (my wife gave it to me one Christmas).

But the . 35 whelen was a common "wildcat" for heaps of years before Rem. gave it a home.

Maybe I should ask this in the gunsmith forum but how costly would it be to take a nice bolt action 30/06 and turn it into a .35 whelen?

Good suggestion.

My first 35 Whelen I built before Remington even thought about legitimizing it. Still have it. Built it on a surplus 1908 Brazilian action, ordered a Shilen prefit 14 twist barrel, and took em both to my smith. While he fit the barrel, did the bolt mods, and drilled and tapped, I acquired a semi inletted Fajen stock and a Decelerator pad. I did the stock work, inleting the stock, some checkering, the pad, and installed a Beulhler safety. Not the best 35Whelen custom by a looooong shot - but it got me into the hunt with a poor man's magnum - which I wanted. No factory made em so...

I did one like that as well. Mismatched military mauser. Got a pre threaded barrel from midway I think. Got some used express sights from a gunshow. Smith just had to chamber and install sights. I put it in a plain jane laminate boyds stock. Total price was around 400 bucks I think. Then if one adds scope mounts, change the mil safety, timney trigger etc etc... it would be cheaper to buy a new rifle. Actually that was the main thing I learned from building it ;)

There is almost always a Whelen for sale on the EE in one form or another, I picked up a 700 Classic a few months back in pristine condition for an acceptable price. It shoots 225 ABs and 250 Parts amazing.
