Does anyone here have a Restricted FN CAL?

If the FRT# exists, then someone's got one somewhere... If only there was some sort of database that told us who had what firearms and where they were...

If the CAL could be brought to Canada, I would buy one. Provided it was not extremely expensive of course, but I expect it to be pricey.

I wonder if FN could be persuaded into producing a new, Non-restricted version of the CAL that takes AR mags. I assume this would take standard FAL furniture?

The FNC took AR mags, but unfortunately it is prohib.

Aren't these rifles extremely rare? They never did go into full production and were dropped in favour of the FNC. According to Standard Catalog of Military Firearms: The Collector's Price and Reference Guide By Phillip Peterson "only about 20 of these rifles were imported into the U.S.". Just because there's an FRT doesn't mean there are more than a handful worldwide; the H&K G11 caseless rifle being a good example as there were only ever 1000 made according to one source. I'd like to see more non-restricted "black rifles" just as much as the next guy but I wonder if pursuing the CAL would ever be worthwhile...

More worth while to just ask the CPC to change some classifications..... there are rumours that if enough of us ask there may be some changes....

Yes, they are rare, but according to the information I've read, a small number were sold to the U.S. civilian market. I'm hoping that a couple made it up here, but I'm sceptical as to if I'll be able to get the info I'm looking for on them...

Can't own an FNC1, but one can own the other Fn famly under 12/5, which i have, but not the money to get one eighter, so sad for me eh.

I would be very surprised if there are more than one or two up here, if any. It didn't go into full production because it was too expensive to manufacture compared to the competition (AR-15/AR-18, and that other SAR-something made in Singapore), so it was rapidly superseded by the FNC.

There were US approved semi-auto versions for the civilian market so some could certainly have made it up here, and its status would have depended on barrel length, since it would have been late '80s/pre C-68.

It also used a proprietary mag rather than AR/STANAG mags. If there ARE any restricted/semi auto versions up here, they would have sold for over a thousand back then, god knows what you would have to pay now.

That said, if someone stuck one on the EE, I would definitely have a look and shake my piggy bank...

to access the frt you must be an rcmp or a verifier right? is there a copy available to the public?

Nothing available to the public that I know of, although you might be able to obtain a copy through an FOI request. Not sure of this as I haven't tried it, nor need/want to.

Use of the Firearms Reference Table web service is limited to individuals who have been authorized by the RCMP. Authorized users include members of the police community, specific Public Agents and approved firearm verifiers.
