Does the 7mm08 deserve its reputation as a "girl's" gun

yes, and "boy's" gun. fortunately for those like myself that don't want to be beaten by their rifle it is perfectly useful for hunting when chambered in a light rifle. i love shooting but shooting a hard kicking rifle from the bench is no fun. the 7mm08 is as gentle as any I've shot.

Love the 7mm-08! Great round... very minimal kick! Petzal has been trumpeting the advantages of guns with minimal recoil for as long as I've been reading him.

Met a guy in NL last year that had a muzzle break on his .308. Says it feels like a .22 LOL

After reading this read, 7mm08 is very near the top of my list of rifles to buy. Right after I get a BLR in 308. I don't care if it is or isn't a girl's gun. I like the idea of doing more with less, and the extra recoil, expense and noise of the magnum calibers has never appealed to me.

When I bought my BLR I was between .243 and 7-08. I opted for .243 because ammo is almost half the price and it's easier to find. Whether or not it was a "girl's" or "kids" caliber never occurred to me. Ballistically it's enough for any game you'd hunt around these parts with a centerfire rifle.

Ammo development has come so far in the past 20 years it's baffling to me why people still bother shooting recoil monsters the way they do. You don't need to shoot 3 1/2 inch rounds at turkeys and you don't need to shoot 125lbs whitetails with a 30-06 or 300 win mag. You're also a lot more likely to develop into a good shot with a round that doesn't put a beating on you.

125 pounds is a small whitetail.......

125 pounds is a small whitetail.......

Well, an average buck weighs about 150lbs, and average doe about 100.

I know everyone likes to tell the tale of the 250 pounder they put down with a 900 yard shot, but the reality is that's hardly a common occurrence.

I personally consider .243 to be a bare minimum deer round...... But don't feel over gunned with an aught six or a .308.......

And yes, it's a rare occurs de that the big boy steps out....... But I sure do want to be ready if he does!

Actually they are close in that regard also.

I have taken 168 SMK to over 2700 ft/sec as well(in 7mm-08), and by looking at a quick average of this similar projectile out of a RM on reloaders nest(I have no recorded info on 7RM anymore)It wouldn't be much over 2800 ft/sec.

I have nothing against the RM it is just an inefficient chambering. The .308 Win based cases just use powder better.

Yes, I have big powder burners in my collection also.

Girls gun , yes, lots of girls put meat in the freezer with it, you going to argue with them? ;)

Get into heavy bullets and thats not true
