I've got a VX-3 4.5-14 Leupold on a 700 VS that I've got $35 into.:D

But most of my guns have either Leupold/Nikon/Pentax scopes on them so no.

i just have leupold rifleman 3-9x40 on top of my X-bolt. if i could go back i would have gotten something better. not saying its a bad scope, but the scope is deffinitly limiting the guns potential

It varies- some are more some less. Generally the optics on my hunting rifles are more because I have way too much $$ tied into the hunting trip to lose a shot because of poor glass or give up a shot because of glass that doesn't gather enough light at legal first and last light.

I'd go on a $250,000 sheep hunt with a $350 fixed Leupold mounted on a $10,000 rifle without a second thought. In no way shape or form would I do it with some of these bargain basement pea shooters and a $2000 Swarovski.

yes

I have a Leupold M4 LR/T Illum reticle on my Rem 700 LTR .308. The scope was about $1400 or so and the rifle $1200. Prices are quite a bit higher now with our low dollar. But,yeah......my scope is worth more than the rifle. Using Badger Ord 30mm rings (USMC M40A1) and Badger Ord picatinny rail. Harris bipod......of course.

Your gun is only as good as the scope you put on it!

 Not sure about that statement.

I also have a XL7 in the mail on its way to me. But right now, I think that putting a scope thats twice the price as this rifle kinda defeats the purpose of why I bought this rifle, and thats to save $$$$.

Now if this rifle turns out to be a great shooter, and later on I find myself with a few more buck lying around, then I probably will buy better quality glass for it.

quackquackbang, I been looking at the Burris FF also, or maybe even the Vortex Diamondback. I wish someone around here sold these so I could look through the glass to see if there is much difference between them and the 3200 I have on my Ruger. Would you be able to compare the Burris with any other scope you might have already used???

Sometimes yes and sometimes no. The Burris Signature on my Stevens is well more pricey but the Leupold Vari-X III on my RSM is barely a quarter the price. My NXS was double the price of my LE2B but my Mark 4 was half the cost of my ATRS M70. But they're all quality scopes and I think that's the critical thing.

Weird combo  ..... Is your 375 your main verminator?

.

I was thinking the same thing - lots of magnification (hopefully the eye relief is as abundant :D)

As for scope vs gun value, I strongly believe in using good optics but even so, most of my guns are worth more than the scopes riding on top (whether the scopes are Leupold VX-III, Nightforce, Elite 4200, or my minimum, Elite 3200).

Most of my scopes are slightly more expensive than the rifles they are on. If you buy a nice gun you owe it to yourself to put decent glass on it, you can't shoot what you can't see. This is my opinion and a good scope will last a lifetime of use, you can transfer it from gun to gun if you are big into trading firearms. A quality scope is an investment, or at least thats what I keep telling the wife.

I think that would depend. If you had a $300.00 savage, It wouldn't be too hard to find a $300.00+ scope to mount on it. It would be much harder to find a scope to match the cost of a $3000.00 rifle. I like Leupold VX1, and VX2 scopes including the rimfire and ultralight variants. I would probably stick to those two lines no matter what the cost of the rifle was.

Outside or at the range I have to drag myself away from shooting when I use the guns with VX-III's mounted. Bright and clear scopes make all day shooting a pleasure.

I've had my fair share of customers squint through $60 scopes and insist they were just as good as the $600 ones, but I'm not senile enough to believe them yet.

Save your pennies and buy good glass, it's worth it.

Since I favor the Excellent 6x42 Fixed power Leupold on my hunting rifles, it is fairly often that the Rifle is worth more than the optics. However, I have a number of high end Leupolds on Varmint/target rifles, and for most of them, the scopes are a bit more than the rifle, or close to the same price. As has already been said, it does not pay to go the "cheap" route with optics. Regards, Eagleye.

depends! Target, hunting I use a bunch or VX IIIs and IIs in the 1.5x5 and 1x4 range.

They are about half the price of a rifle, vs a Ziess which is about equal. Other than my MK4s all my glass is 75% the cost of the rifle approx.
