Meet Waylon! He's a gorgeous silver 3 year old Catahoula Leopard Dog, He loves to snuggle and is full of love and very eager to please. He has completed a private dog training course, mastering the basic commands.

He is neutered, weighs about 55 lbs and is approximately 21 in. at the shoulder.

Waylon is an amazing dog. He loves and respects his people and wants to be loved and snuggled. Like ma...ny other Catahoulas, he thinks he is a lap dog, despite his size. He rides great in the car, he is happy to snuggle in a ball among his blankets. He has the "stubborn" characteristic of intelligent Catahoulas but this is greatly tempered by his eagerness to earn praise and love from his people. Consistency is key.

Waylon loves children and treats them with great gentleness, though he has not lived in a home with or been around children full-time. Waylon loves ALL visitors, wanting to greet them eagerly… we continue to work on him respecting other people's space and not uber-sniffing everyone. He loves the dog park, but our trips there have not been very successful. He became very accustomed to having the run of everything without sharing and while he is not aggressive to other dogs, he doesn'tt quite know how to deal with them either. When I walk with him, people frequently comment on his handsomeness, friendly manner and his good behavior.

We have been told he was raised around all sorts of animals - cats, dogs, horses etc. but we have not had a cat with him and have not seen how he interacts/reacts to them.

Waylon loves being outside - when his people are outside! If he is off leash he will run off to explore he does well on a looooonnnnngggg line to run and explore and sniff on. He hates going out when it's raining and is not a fan of baths either, but loves all lakes, streams, rivers and puddles when and if it is on his terms. He will be coaxed into a crate, but is not happy about it. Waylon's needs would be served best by finding a home where someone is home with him full-time, where he could both give his love and loyalty and companionship and be welcomed and loved in return for that unique Catahoula-ness AND have the space and freedom and opportunity to run and sniff himself silly.

As I write this, he is snuggled beside me on the couch with his nose tucked in under my elbow, twitching as he dreams of chasing rabbits and treeing saucy squirrels. smile emoticon

We are looking for an active, breed savvy adopter

Hi I'm Nikan, my name means "friend". I'm half GSP and Half chocolate lab! I'm a gentle, playful boy who hasn't had many friends in the past and I'm amazed at the difference in my life since I was rescued, I got neutered and can socialize with other dogs and people who like me. I'm one of the "grateful ones" who overcame my fearfulness and discovered that people in my new life are going to be good... to me. They're also going to help me figure out the niceties of being an indoor family dog!. My coat is looking better every day. It's soft and shiny with gold highlights. I get regular meals. I have a comfortable, warm place to sleep. Life is so much better! Now I just need to find a family to love me forever!

Foster home needed!

Meet Afton! She's an adventurous, three year old, little girl who absolutely needs a job to do. She's loving and funny and busy and very, very, VERY active. She needs a home that's had lots of experience with GSPs and knows how to bring out the best of their many talents. She would LOVE to be someones running partner. Afton's adopters will also need to help her to overcome th...e talents that we aren't as fond of - digging, opening doors, and barking for attention. I can jump very, very high on all four legs. I'm a total love bunny. I'm good with everyone I meet. I'm good with other dogs but should go to a home with a male dog or be the only dog.

Her current foster mom says she just snoozes as long as she has had her exercise.

Meet Bella she's a sweetheart smile emoticon She's only about 2 years old.
She hasn't ever had any obedience training but she is super smart and eager to please. She is already learning recall, leash manners and all about how to live in the house. She was chained outside for the first two years of her life.
She doesn't seem to bark unless she is alerting you to something, she let's you know and quits as soon as you let her know it's ok.
She has the softest fur and we think her ears are made of velvet!
Bella is great with people, she gets excited around children and could knock them down. She has not been socialized with other dogs but is working on it!

Meet Sampson! He is a very handsome Coonhound. He gets along with all other dogs. The older GSP he is fostered with is grumpy & when she growls, he is respectful & gives her a wide birth. He is fine with the cats in the house, but not if they are outside & run. He trees them. He is neutered. Weighs about 55 pounds. He is very sweet. He helps himself to any chair or sofa in the house. Hi foster mom wakes up & he's sleeping with her. He doesn't know any commands right now except sit, but we are working with him. He walks great on leash with a harness & not terrible on regular leash with martingale collar, until he gets a whiff of something. Then he pulls. We will update more as we get to know him.

" Sam has had a tough year.
First, the senior Weimaraner ended up in the care of Dogwood Rescue when his owner developed a serious illness and could no longer take care of him.
Then, he ruptured a disk in his back and had to undergo a hemilaminectomy, a surgery to alleviate pressure on his spinal cord.
Things weren’t looking too great for old Sam. Initially it was believed that his hind legs would be paralyzed, but his outlook improved dramatically through rehabilitation and massage.

For many months, Nicola Way of Vancouver Animal Massage worked with the 11-year-old, incorporating massage with strength training and balancing exercises to get him back on his feet.

In short, he’s doing great now. He can run and walk like other dogs, although he will always have slight coordination issues. Now he just faces one last hurdle: Finding a forever home.
Dogwood says that Sam would be best with active, mature, perceptive pet parents without young children – ideally someone who “appreciates the companionship of a loyal dog and will take him for a couple of regular rambles every day and who will continue his massage routine.” He gets along with other dogs, though he really does prefer the company of people.

A home with a doggy door and yard is ideal: Sam likes to come and go as he pleases.

This pooch is more quiet and reserved than some Weimaraners but he is extremely loving and good natured.
Although his mountain climbing days are over, Sam still likes to get out, sniff the world and explore new territory. He enjoys going to the beach or for an amble along a forest path, but just not long hikes.
Though he is considered a special needs dog, his needs aren’t particularly onerous and potential adopters should not be scared away. He should just avoid jumping games, like frisbee, to protect his back.

Dogwood says that his limitations are “almost unnoticeable,” adding that life with a special needs senior dog is easy once a routine is established: They’re calm, patient and appreciative. If you want to learn more about Sam, or any of the other great dogs they have for adoption, contact the Dogwood Rescue Society.
This volunteer-run non-profit specializes in taking in neglected, mistreated and unwanted sporting and working dogs, such as Weimaraners, Pointers, Vizslas, Retrievers, Dobermans and Hounds, as well as mixed breed pups.
Many of its dogs are registered purebreds that have found themselves in rescue by no fault of their own.

I am a really sweet boy, everyone who meets me loves me. I have freckles on my nose and ears! My rescuers think I am a young lab x pitbull. I'm brand new to rescue and my rescuers will update as they get to know me better.

wow, this boy looks pretty close to my Willy, who is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I hope he finds a good home real soon! Wish I could take him!

Meet Lily!

Lily is small for a GSP, about 32 lbs. She is a beautiful girl. She is six years old. Due to her size, she is often mistaken for a large puppy.

She is a great dog in the house, car, and at the off-leash park....
Lily is not getting along with one of the other dogs in her current home. Her owner thinks it's a girl-girl thing. Lily is still gentle and loving with the 13 year old male and the 9 year old female that she lives with, but a rift has developed for reasons unknown between her and the younger female.

She is in excellent health.

She can be quiet, and somewhat timid, around strangers at first; but then she warms up! She does not whine or howl, ever and rarely barks.
She keeps herself scrupulously clean. She is fine with having her teeth brushed, and she likes having her nails cut (if I do someone else first, she comes over and sits to wait for her turn). She also loves to be brushed…Loves it.
She is used to a one-hour off-leash run every morning; the rest of the day, she is pretty much a house dog, even a couch potato.
She loves to run in the trees and look for squirrels. She loves to run in the field and sometimes dig for mice. She knows the various pathways and doesn’t venture too far, although lie most GSPs she does not stick just to the path itself.
She doesn’t howl or pee at thunder or fireworks, but she does go to her bed when they happen.
·

She is sweet, loving, gentle. She usually sleeps in a crate, basket, or on a dog bed. As she settles in, she does a tiny wiggle on the bed, takes a little breath, and lets out a soft little “ahhh”.

Lilly is looking for a breed savvy adoptive home.
