I am familiar with the Dominion Arms Grizzly. The box-mag-fed isn't what you would want for backpacking (obviously, too bulky) but the tube fed 8.5" or 12.5" should suffice for backpacking and having fun at the range. Feeds well as far as I'm concerned. Never used the Dlask though, so I can only give a 50% answer... Sorry...
For the price of the Dlask... Buy 2 DA's... Or one DA, a ton of shells, and customize it the way you want.
If you're a hardcore shotgunner, you'll be happier with the dlask - smoother action and trigger, tighter fit and finish. But in the end, it's still a scattergun. Accuracy differences will be more dependent on the ammo you use than which one of the two shotguns you choose. The DA will weigh a bit more, but that really isn't a big deal either. I'm old fashioned and don't mind a bit of extra weight, because while it means a bit more to carry around, it also means less felt recoil.
Mind you, I only own the DA Grizzly, never even fired the DLask. My opinion is worth what you paid for it

Love Dlask and it's quality but have owned a Grizzly for a few years now. Fired trap loads, 00 buck, slugs, never had a misfeed it just goes bang.
The ghost rings allow for decent slug groups. I decided to buy a Grizzly and add a 12"LOP Hogue stock, sling, side saddle shell carrier,and UTG aluminum front slide with a tri -grip. I was a bit worried due to the low price but the all metal construction and a few years of cycling has put to rest any quality concerns to rest, I prefer the tube loading over the mag design.
Just my .02 only been shooting shotguns for 30 years so what do I know.
And yes I take the electronic sight off when packing in the bush.

It comes down to this. With a Dlask they make the barrel machine all the parts ect finish the barrels can add ghost ring sights if you want ect. For the quality the Dlask wins hands down but for the price the Grizzly wins. The finish on the Grizzly is very weak and easy to scratch.
Bought a Wingmaster off Casey for $150, sold the stock for $50, Sold the 18" barrel for $100. Added a 3" ejector and spring for $25. So, so far I'm into it for $25. Add a stock and barrel of your choice and away you go. I've seen how far DA barrel rings are out of index, so my vote goes to Dlask for the barrel. It is noteworthy to point out the Dlask complete guns are express models

For some of us, a scattergun is, at best, a secondary tool. What works, works.
I'll gladly plow over $1G into a .22 bolt action (already have), or a centerfire in a calibre I'm interested in pursuing. But a shotgun has limited use for me, so I'm not interested in punching tons of money into it.
Keep in mind the use case the OP put up - basic bear defense (a DA covers it), and some plinking/blasting (DA covers it).
If you're going to spend lots of time shooting skeet/trap, and you're planning on getting into upland game etc., then by all means, go for the best money can buy. Otherwise, go with something basic and reliable, that won't hurt your wallet.
Remember, this is all supposed to be fun. Sweating the cost of each and every barrel you buy isn't fun.
I would also suggest the used Wingmaster and 12" barrel. You end up with a better quality, smoother and lighter shotgun (compared to the DA Grizzly) for about the same money +/-. I actually bought a 12" DA Grizzly prior to figuring this out, them sold it to go with to the WM.

Wow, seriously? Care to share what kind of guns you own. Not everybody can afford the "best option" and use that term lightly. So if somebody cant afford a dlask they shouldnt shoot since they cant afford it? Ok that would probably cut the firearms owners population in canada in half.
