Dominion Arms Outlaw Hammer doesn't strike firing pin

Hello guys

Last night i picked up my newest addition to the family, after inspecting it it seems that the external hammer doesn't travel far enough to hit the firing pin. Has anyone encountered a problem like this before? This is my first shotgun and I want to exhaust all options before contacting the store i purchased it from.

Did you try firing it? On the one I have the hammer will never touch the firing pins unless it is fired.

I tried dry firing it but I haven't taken it to the range and put ammo in it or purchased some snap caps yet

Yes try firing it first. Looks can be deceiving when it comes to external hammers.

OK, got some snap caps in it and went over it again. Hammers will still not reach the firing pin is there some kind of adjustment screw?... I can see that it has been fired in the past as I can see some of the finish has worn off

Any ideas?

With the gun unloaded and the action open and the hammers down, if you pull the trigger and at the same time push forward on the corresponding hammer does the firing pin extend past the breach plate (or whatever it is called)?

Yes, I was about to mention that I can push the hammer forward enough with the trigger held down to strike the hammer and yes the hammer extends into the chamber

It's as it should be with a rebounding hammer. It'll fire.

just a tip, make sure all the screws are tight. some of them are shipped decidedly loose.

Don't fire both barrels at once, the forend will crack.

Put a piece of paper up against the firing pin. Pull the trigger. If the hammer is working correctly, the firing pin will punch a hole in the paper. Re bounding hammers can only reach the pin if the trigger is held back

I had to get a 3rd gun before it worked with both hammers

I've fires both barrels at once with 3" Magnums. They won't go off at once. More of a quick bang-bang.

Hey guys thanks for your help in the matter... took a trip to the range yesterday and it works like a charm. Although it kicks like a mule when you pull both triggers with some 3" slugs... just about knocked me on my butt

How bad was the cut on the finger that was on the rear trigger?

No double shotguns with dual triggers were ever designed to shoot both at once-especially with heavy buckshot or slug loads. Although of course everyone (including me) has done it.

Something like an Outlaw, that is fairly light, short barrels and for sure not tight grained walnut wood, will suffer under this sort of treatment. Best to shoot lighter loads for general blasting,and then pull out the heavy stuff on occasion, and don't shoot both at once!

Glad ya had fun with it, these little shotguns sure are a bundle of joy.

Here's my newest one I picked up last year, I sold my other one to best friend and just had to have another.

I have zero problems firing off both barrels at once but it's only a one in a blue moon thing (unless shooting my birdshot wax slugs) as I'm fully aware of how easily it can crack the stock so I only shoot 2-3/4" at the same time, never 3".
