Dominion Primers vs others in flame size (SPP)

Hope to hear more from you and the 9mm loads, if you mind me asking what pistol(s) are you running them with?

I shot the 9mm and had zero issues in either gun with these primers. I also loaded up 100 45acp round do with large pistol Dominion primers and had 5 light strikes solely due to my tanfoglio's light hammer spring. Was fine in a norc 1911 too.

Thank you Spawn-Inc. Sounds like these primers are good for plain ole plinking rounds.

How is consistency on target when shooting?

better then my skills, my problem is i bring all my guns to the range with different ammo and never have the same ammo (weight or powder type) so i always have to relearn, that's my excuse anyway. my buddy can shoot 1" groups all day long because he uses the same gun and same ammo everytime.

once i get through the 5000 primers which will take a while i will order more for sure.

Sounds like you got one to many toys. :p All I need is bulk powder and I will be set... and placing an order to CanAm so I can get at least 5-10 000 of each large and small pistol primers.

One of the main reasons we imported these is because of their reputation for accuracy.

That is always good to hear. I couldn't find much information about Dominion primers but it seems they do a fairly decent job from what others have told me so far.

Now if only you guys carried powders. :p

I have used 20,000 Wolf primers and 5,000 TULA. large and small pistol and large and small rifle.

I found them to be excellent. About the same as CCI standard primers. The cup might be slightly harder. I have one pistol that will not ignite them reliably (or CCI or Winchester, either) It gets fed a diet of federals.

i ordered 5000 Domonion small pistol primer primers from Canada Ammo and did some testing to compare them to CCI, Federal and S&B (thought i had winchester as well but i don't or can't find them) in how "hot" they are and my impression of how hard the primers are.

setup/testing is as follows;

smith and wesson 586 6"
4 (same 4 cases) 38spl cases that have had the primer holes enlarged. i used the same 4 for each brand of primer
lighting was the same for every picture.

they seem to be about the same as federal when it comes to flame size based on the pictures. my 586 will only set off federal primers reliable, most others (cci, winchester, S&B) i will have the a light strike every 12 rounds give or take. i only tested dominion primers and 1 had to be hit twice to go off, the other 5 went of the first time. i should mention this is in double action, in single all primers go off the first time.

and on a side note i also ordered some berdan primers with intentions of reloading 7.5x55 gp11 brass. they are really intended for 7.62x39mm, but for the price i took a chance. i loaded up 10 empty cases and compared them to 5 factory primers and they are definitely under powered by comparison. i replaced the primer in 4 rounds of factory ammo to see how they work, but it won't be for a while until i can get to the range.

Hi

I am referring to your article on Dominion primers in the thread

Just an update for those who are interested. Ran 100 each the following loads.... but both loads ran well in my SP01 and my tuned up G34 Gen4 (No changes to stock firing pin springs)

** I waiver this as you need to use your own reloading manuals **
Dominion Small Pistol Primer - I did not enlarge flash holes
124 Grs CPRN (Canpro) (Average weight of 20 samples was actually about 122.4Grs)
1.090" Seat Depth
Mild Taper Crimp (Just enough to smooth it out a bit for feeding)

Used 3.7Grs and 3.9Grs of Titegroup

I am unsure of velocity.... however the 3.7Grs felt a little under the 125PF.... whoops
3.9Grs seemed to have the "correct sensation"

I checked for primer back out, or other signs of over pressure, and there was none - 0 flattening of the primer
I had used FED Small Pistol Primer until now, and anything above 3.6Grs of Titegroup I was getting mild flattening

I've since loaded 4000 of the Dominion small pistol primers, but it's for my bulk 9mm and 38spl. I also loaded for my 45acp with large pistol primers.

But at this point I'm very happy with them and if they stay at this price I will most definitely be ordering more. Hopefully Canada ammo keeps ordering them!

I think I'll be buying their small pistol primers. I wonder if they'll be selling bullets and powders to go along with them that are imported from that part of the world as well? The Russians don't seem to be suffering from the same shortages as the Americans.

To clarify, it would be nice to see a line of powders especially, in which we didn't have to count on getting the surplus that Americans don't need.

i have had around 100 of the dominion primers that will not ignite even after being hit twice with the firing pin and this is out of a batch of 1000 not impressed to say the least... even tried multiple firearms, all stock pistols...

i pulled the bullets, dumped the powder and removed the primers from two rounds so far, took them to the shop and had to hit one of them twice with a 2 pound ball-peen hammer to get it to go, WTF gives here...its almost like i got one bad package, they look the same as all the others so I'm not sure what the deal is?

Anyone else have any of these issues by chance?

I know that the Winchester standard primers are the hottest ,after years of research, and that the CCIs are right there with them which has always made them both my preferred primers for all loads. Thanks for the super comparison, real sweet !

Winchester small rifle and CCI 450's are my 'go to' primers with .223 and ball powder. Great results. Finding them for a decent price these days is the challenge.
