yeah for what its worth , leave it on an shoot the thng... it will be his specialty deer rifle.... we are both Left handers- so i jump on this while its there , later looked at the rrp of 1k, so as agun nut my mind wandered a little bit, IF it doesnt shoot... great left hand action to build off into something exactly right... (7.62x39) lol.

20inch barrel really appeals, the open sights are welcomed and from what ive seen on here , the cartridge is plenty capable for say UNDER the 200m job.

i was originalyl goin to upgrade my scope on the 3006 and use the 2-7 x33 loopy on this new whatever (330blk/7.6 etc) as it would be certainly awesome for limiting to 200m use! but , the darn scope is just to good on the 06..

i have a bunch of cheaper possibly bushnells an knock off copies that would also work for plinking until he gets keen
thanks all!

Buy a crate or two of milsurp or non corrosive commercial steel and 100 rounds of ppu
soft point rn ammo and call it a day

Only $500 for that!? Sounds like you scored bigtime! I'd have bought it too for that price!

Hope your little guy likes it, I know my daughter would be freaking right the #### out if she saw that under the christmas tree.

$437 CAD, good deal unless the bore is rotten.

i did get a photo of the bore, i asked for muzzle but got bore, bit blurry but had plenty rifling... not super sure it looked in great cond??
one night this weekend il psot up that photo an get a report from you guys-

i think for this price, as long as shoots 2moa it will be great, if that cant happen then i think its a pretty sweet platform to 'rebuild' from :)

oh yeah! it was hard swaying him over from 300blk, so many youtube videos on the 300, flava of month etc an when lookin at 7.62 stuff , alot of it was older guns ak ar etc an visually the 7.62 looks like it has alot more 'bang' to it ha ha watchin guys shoot it on bench makes him look a bit worried..... he will probly be force fed a spoon or two of cement before i recieve the 7.62 lol

dude i see this advertised down under, like $19 a box............... im so in lol. the problem will be availability.

a guy in another state was sellin what u mention, non corrosive steel stuff for $15 a box, china silver?
but the postage doesnt happen, an logistics a drama.

whats ya thoughts on pullin the milsurp if i can find any, an jammin projectiles back in?

Why ? Do you mean so you have hunting ammo ? I'm not a reloading pro but that seems like the least efficient way to save pennies for your new setup. It'll still be berdan primed corrosive ammo with presumably loose tolerances (I would still expect significant variation round to round). I don't know what kind of hunting you guys do in Oz but here I wouldn't use corrosive ammo on a multi day hunt if you paid me. If the PRVI RN or PSP is available just buy that. If you want to experiment with relapsing, use the cases from the prvi ammo.

Pulling the bullet out of milsurp and replacing with a soft point bullet would work but you’d have to find 123 grain 30 cal bullets. .308 diameter would probably shoot fine but you’d have to test it cause the bore is probably .310 or .311. As mentioned you’d have to clean thoroughly within hours cause the berdan primers are corrosive. No Barnaul steel case down under? I use Barnaul steel case sp in mine for hunting.

I've heard of guys making Mexican match ammo by replacing surplus projectiles with new ones. I've also heard of guys running rounds through a bullet seating die that bumps the bullet in just a bit to break any sort of tar seal or galvanic welding on surplus ammo to help improve groups a bit. Whether or not you think it's worth the effort, you'll have to figure that out.

yeah from what i find all the .311 are the go for 7.62? was hoping the 308 may shoot but i tried in the over sized 303 bore i got..... not good.

ill be tryin a few things for sure....

just sortin rifle, then il look for ammo an projies etc.

How many deer are you guys shooting a year? Presumably more than a Canadian. If the boy shoots 10 deer, 15 dingos and 20 kangaroos a year at 1.5 bullets per animal how many rounds of ppu do you need?

I’ve got around 300 rounds of norinco softpoints come by and you can have some :dancingbanana:

ha ha- this wil have complications on the roo population ... ... but even then, 50 rounds.
Deer...... probly for him, 5 rounds a year on deers when he visit, for me, il play a bit an use it for some content but even then, 5 deer.
dingos an foxes proberly unlikly, for spotlighting we use the .222 with a walk torch on it now, which also perfect roo calibre- so can almost say the 7.62 is deer only an alot of steel gong.

yeah il let yas know what the pricing is for factory tomorrow
