New barrel, fired a few and she was clean. Forgot I had hit the chamber with Brake Kleen and didn't patch it with Kroil before the next shot..

You trying to do some sort of silly barrel break in process?

All you need to do is initially clean to get rid of any potential debris in the bore, then shoot your gun. Clean after at least every 250 rounds.

Barrel "break in" doesn't really accomplish anything, except potentially wear the barrel out early. Top barrel makers such as Bartlein will even say as much. More barrels have been damaged by trying to "break in a barrel" and extensive cleaning regimens more then anything else.

Kroil is a penetrant not a lubricant, bit of a difference in the two although Kroil seems to do a decent job, I use G96 after cleaning the bore.

I agree, I don't think of it as a lubricant, I do use it for lots of things but if used in the bore I always finish with oil or a CLP.

Nope, I'm with you on this.

First time using cheap Speer's so I cleaned after 3 out of curiosity.

Cleaned this crap out and fired another 96 rnds!

Your brass jag is lying to you. The bore solvent is attacking and dissolving your brass jag giving your patches a false indication of jacket fouling in the bore after the bore is clean.

Take a patch wet with solvent and wrap it around your jag and let it sit for a while or rub it on the jag and see what color it is. Same as jacket fouling.

Are you thinking bronze brush? I haven't had any false blue from a jag before and I've used a bit of Sweet's on older barrels

Keep in mind that if a barrel make recommends that you run a rigorous break in routine, that it may well be a self serving recommendation... in the hopes that you cause undue wear and need a new barrel sooner.

I assumed your problem was rust by your text but you didn’t say and other people see copper. So what is it I’m colour blind it looks like rust to me

It's copper.

I managed to clean it up and get it shooting again. Fired another 50 (150 total so far) last night and the only copper sticking around seems to be on the trailing edge of the lands.

Groups are still sub MOA with the fire forming load. Hoping to load develop after a match this weekend and see what she can really do!

I see. I use a mop for my chamber after cleaning it works good enough and you could spray a bit of brakleen on it without getting it down your bore but I would prefer just wiping out any remaining solvent with the mop so it’s not completely dry
