Don't take your Black Rifle to PoCo!

It's the sign of the times it seems. I always thought if I had a belt fed semi, I'd have to post a large notice on a highly visible stand:

SAVE YOUR DIME BUDDY!
This is a legal gun
The belt is legal too!
(quote laws)

Two questions / observations

#1. Instead of approaching the fellow who called the RCMP with a lynching rope, why not approach with an olive branch and calmly find out why he called the police. Was it due to ignorance and not knowing the status of AR15's, possibly believing that they are machine guns and illegal or was it in spite. If it was due to ill intention, find out why and determine if something can be done to overcome this.
Education, cooperations and calm approach would most likely result in a win/win situation as compared to creating a divide among gun owners. Do you want to create another anti-semiautomatic gun owner.
Remember that he/she as well has friends and will be teling them thier version of events.

#2. If you arrange a "blackgun" event, would it be a good idea to invite the local cops. There are those who are into firearms but may have not shot a blackgun. There are those who may have only handled their issue sidearm. Invited them (no cost to come), befriend them (let them shoot any and every style, make, model you have), educate them (laws regarding the classes of firearms) and show them a good time.

I would suggest that you have an "adopt a cop" program in which a knowledgable person be with every group to ensure the proper idea, information, firearms handling and safety is being diseminated. You want them to leave with a smile on their face and assured that the firearms community is knowledgable, supportive and practices safety first.

Radar, on #1:

This guy is both stupid and malicious, and very Liberalized. No amount of coaching would work. But he should be approached and kicked

out of the club.

#2. Good idea.

or, you could just walk up to him and kick him in the nuts, jam his Model 94 Winchester up his ass, and go away feeling a whole lot better....:D

all kinda sad in the end we are all doing the same thing when we go to the range...burning up ammo or long range hole punching .it all the same weather its a ar ,pistol or hunting rife .whats the big deal ? ii hunt and i own a few ars (i dont wear plad :D ) informaition is key and be friendly swap your ar with the bp shooter next to you for a few round and have fun doing it :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana: its not like the evil trapshooters  i kidding shoot all guns and have fun ..just my .02

I like Radar's suggestions, they are all good. We need to make inroads and educate those who are ignorant about 'black guns'. If you can win them over to our side we gain support against further idiotic laws/restrictions/ and eventual confiscation.

I got to thinking about this again today. I live on Burke Mtn. also the PoCo club is on Burke Mountain. This some times is a problem if I am out in the yard and hear the shots being fired. For me the problem I want to drop the yard work and go shooting.

Maybe some others don't like the sound? There are plans to put an additional 26000 people on the mountain over the next 20 years. Undoubtably those who use PoCo have noticed the clearing and the new roads and paving almost up to the club. Also right at the club is the drop off spot for the mountain bikers and hikers.

When several people fire semi-autos at the same time it can sound a lot like a machine gun.

trying to blame the call to the police on a fellow shooter might not be the smartest assumption to to leap to.

Maybe it was someone else with a different agenda, maybe by fighting among ourselves we are playing right into their hands?

Stop by for a visit, and if you are "Good", you can shoot one of my AR15's :)

Oh, I'll stop by! Will remind me of when I was a weapons instructor in lahr, West Germany (pre re-unification...). We trained a whole brigade on the buggers when we got rid of the old FN C1.

And guys, don't feel too bad about the incident, the new "un-official" moto of the RCMP is "No call too small". (that's according to the troops, not the brass)

Ken...I was the only person on the range that morning with an AR15. I was NOT shooting "rapid fire", as I was zeroing in a new EOTech. My fire was slow and deliberate...so there was nobody shooting "like a machine gun". I'm an old cheapskate; I don't like "blasting" off ammo just for the sake of doing so and take my marksmanship very seriously.

Ken...The call came from the range....from the Firing Line....both John and the cop confirmed this at the time. If you choose to doubt this, it's your privilege. :) (Edited to add: And I certainly respect your right to your own opinion, Ken)

Bingo. But this time "they" was one of us. ;)

Bring this up with the executive of the club. Im the Range Operator of ours and I would hit the roof if one of our members did that. If I caught the bugger he'd be out. Unless he did some very quick talking...

I like the idea of go forth and blast away. Dont let one idiot spoil your shooting. Just wait, and he'll be gone. :D

:( Unfortunately this is an example of how the public is being led astray by the anti-gun movement. I remember back in the 70's when you could buy AR's in hardware stores and no-one looked twice at them in the rack! Over the last 10-15 years a person has almost been made to feel like a pedophile or a smoker if you are 'into' firearms.
The worst part of it though is the fact that its (anti gun sentiments) all psychological. Most peaople have never had a bad experience themselves, but they easily can be persuaded to jump on the band wagon.:(
I'll get off my pulpit now.;)
