I'll admit I never asked. But while negotiating on your high asking price I directed you to a NEW dealer ad for an 84L for a comparison on where your price should be.

If we're telling all then it should be added that you had my money before I gave you the EMT password and delayed sending pictures until the money was in your account.

Does the 84L and 8400 look any different? I know they list different weights, but what else?

How did the seller end up with your money without the password, before you received photos? Did you say you'd take it and then request photos?

Is the price difference between the 84L and 8400 a lot, or a little?

....While we are at it, what's the difference between the 8400 and the 84L? What value difference is there between the two?

The big difference is twelve ounces in weight, in favour of the 84L. The value difference is considerable.

The easy way to resolve this would be to just sell the rifle again. The seller says $1200 is a fairly good deal, my words, not his, so it should move pretty quickly.

The most important aspect of this thread, is that the original poster never revealed who the seller was. That is quite honourable, and deserves remembering.

Both of you men will feel better once this is resolved, and I have no doubt you will be able to do so.

Best,
Ted

I have seen a trend of guys jumping to post their EE issues in all kinds of forums. Most have been resolved successfully. I have had a few minor problems using EE but that said, I would not post about it before I went through the proper channels if that was needed, which it wasn't.

Usually it's in General and gets deleted pretty quickly.

It's not uncommon for Kimber Montanas to be posted as exactly that: A Kimber Montana. As a buyer, since I'm aware that there are two variations (8400 and 84L), I've asked sellers in the past to clarify what model they were selling --- it's part of my due diligence. Since the seller took this rifle on a trade, I can understand that he may not have been aware of the significance of providing details beyond "Montana", and I wouldn't be quick to think that his lack of disclosure re: the comparison to the price of an 84L indicates an intent to deceive --- again, I'd tend to side with lack of awareness.

To the OP, I understand your disappointment, and while it would have been a nice gesture for the seller to refund your money (less postage), I wouldn't hold it against him if he decided not to. Were I in your shoes, I'd feel that the onus was on my shoulders and take it as a learning experience. I think this is more a case of you burning yourself by not being specific with your questions. Bringing up the issues around the EMT seems like grasping at straws to strengthen your argument.

That's my 2c.

Exactly. If you don't ask, don't complain that you didn't know.

In person the 8400 is larger. In pictures...without something like the 84l for comparison almost identical. The left side of the action has the model printed in large lettering. I didn't get a picture of the left...I got two right side pics.

He guessed the password while I was waiting for photos. Not that it would have done any good.

To me, the 8400 is worth a couple hundred less. To many, they wont buy an 8400 because the 84L exsists. It'll likely be a tough time consuming re-sell.

It is what it is...lessons learned.

Hey guys, group hug.

Now, back on topic.

Yes, in my experience a few 100% "clean" CGN'ers turned out to be twa|ts.

I simply accept the risk, move on, and ensure anybody that buys from me gets a fair deal.

Online communication is frought with challenges, I find the most decent people pick up the phone, or if possible, resolve disputes face-to-face.

I'm carefully husbanding my trader rating until it's unimpeachable, then I'm going to rip some sucker off for $140!

Or about one billable hour.

I love the EE. If somebody is A) local or B) in posession of a 100% trader rating with at least 10 trades, and has been on the board a couple years, I don't even think about risk. I go for it!

If you wanted a 84L you should have directly asked if it was that exacted model. Know what your buying before you pay for something. That being said as a seller you should know exactly what your selling and list a full description of the item. I don't know Montana's don't they stamp the model on the barrel like other manufacturers.

They stamp it in large font on the side of the reciever. The seller should definitely note the model in the ad as there is a big value difference here. Also the buyer is kind of silly for not asking such a big question.

The fair thing to do is to take the buyer's offer of a return -shipping and $50. However the buyer should have given it a lot longer than 1 day before bringing the dispute to the public. Seriously, people have lives, give it some time.

Another guy who can't resist acting on his impulses and goes public hours after receiving an item. Why? Do you even have a reason? Is your problem now resolved? Feel better?

Kimbers:

If you only have a right side photo, the 8400 has a visible bump where the recoil lug is.

Interesting turn. Lesson learned and good luck with the sale. I agree with others that this probably should uave been settled privately. One a side note I did one deal with the seller before and it went well.

So did you send money before you told him you'd take it?

Or did you request pictures after saying I'll take it.
