back to Salty..........
I am an incurable optimist (surprise! 8) ) and so I took a large (100 quart) cooler out with me as one piece of checked luggage. Inside it I had brought a couple dozen fresh corn on the cob for Larry and Mary, a few other little goodies, and also a gift for bone collector. My other piece of checked luggage was a duffle bag. I had mailed out the rifle and some of my hunting stuff (knife, sling, binos, etc etc) previously so I did not have that hassle going through four airports.........
I had planned on leaving the rifle out west and so mailed back a bunch of other stuff in my gun case. I got 55 lb of meat in the cooler, and the other 45 lb of meat into my duffel bag, wrapped in my seater, wool pants, etc etc. My carry-on pack was fairly substantial as well, and I wore my heavy hunting boots and hunting jacket. (Like I needed them in the short-sleeve weather........ )
So my two pieces of checked luggage on the flight home were just on the maximum weight (and maybe the sweet young lady at the PG airport allowed somewhat more on the duffel bag...)
So I brought home a hundred pounds of meat as checked luggage, at no additional cost!

Air Canada would have charged me $150 to bring home the antlers, and some larger amount for the meat if I had declared it as "bounty" from the hunt.
