I have a Husqvarna 1640 in 9.3x62. It's an awesome elk catcher, but goshdarnit all to heck does it kick. It's mounted in a skinny schnabel stock. Not scoped yet, but weighs just north of 7 lbs.

I have another 1640, in 30-06, but in a heavy aftermarket stock. I was thinking of swapping the stocks, since I feed the '06 with 165gr and the heavy stock has a limbsaver on it. The '06 weighs just shy of 9 lbs.

Would you swap them?

The weight makes a big difference to the felt recoil energy, which feels about the same as shooting 180 grn 3006 to me.

I would...

Bushnell's Elite 4500 2.5-10x40 weighs 1.25 lbs (19.7oz). Mounting a scope & swapping stocks, would tame the recoil of your 9.3x62 considerably.
