Downright ugly v block install

Pretty brutal so-called workmanship.

Sorry you got so screwed.

I usually start like one of the previous posters, by sorting through my driver tips, and finding the biggest one that I have that has to be actually driven in. Whether that's a Torx or metric, whatever. Drive the tip in to the mangled screw head, leave it in place, and slide a wrench or socket over it to apply torque to remove. Sometimes helps to be able to apply pressure.

Course, a cutoff whel on a Dremel....well, it's already not pretty...but even a sht show of a workman should have no troubles slicing in enough of a slot to use to remove the screw.

Best of luck, dude. I hope the dolt didn't break any more than is visible.

Not a factory target model. The only Ruger parts are the bolt, charge handle, mag release and magazine. Receiver and barrel are Dlask. I had them both powder coated separately and then took all the parts to the smith to assemble. The barrel and receiver were designed for a 'press fit', not an easy slide in. The idea is for a very ridged connection to help with the accuracy.

Makes sense. I am guessing the smith tried to use the v-block to get the barrel in place. That obviously ends badly.

Something tells me its Jaguar that did this vs International shooting supplies?
Thanks for the heads up, sorry for your problems. Just looked at their facebook page and saw a stock in a vice without soft jaw protectors. Thats enough for me to stay away. Looks like he put the barrel in the vice without soft jaws and turned the screw way too hard, spun the barrel, broke the screw. I figured he would have at least powder coated it again to hide the terrible work.

A pretty cool trick is too put valve grinding compound on the wrench as it will take up the slack.
This works well but only if it’s not completely rounded inside.
Another way is to cut a slot into the head with a hacksaw and try and remove with a slotted screwdriver that fits tight.
HTH,s and good luck

Shame, from what I heard dlask will install their barrels for cheap.

I installed a dlask onto my ruger receiver using a 2x4 lol

Grinding compound is nice if you have the stuff.

Pretty sure there are at least a couple outfits selling small tubes of the same stuff, specifically marketed for 'improving the grip' of driver tips in screw heads.
I have actually resorted to using a smear of grease off the actual aircraft I was working on, plus a wee pinch of sand off the ground, to do the same job.
A lot to be said for having a couple brand new Philips #2 driver tips squirreled away. Even more so if they are the ACR bits with teeth in the faces.

Our tool guys liked the softer driver tips, as they wore rather than snapped. I hated the soft tips because of the same reasons, they wore, destroyed the screws they were used on, and made misery out of a straightforward job plus screwed over the next poor bugger trying to work under that panel. The brittle bits would generally snap pretty cleanly, and removing the parts wasn't near as much misery as removing a munged up screw that now had built in cams to spit out the driver.

He is located in Surrey. I leave it at that but if you Google "gunsmiths in Surrey BC" you will get your answer.

Google gives me 3 gunsmiths in Surrey, BC. So... no answer.

Did you take it back and vent your displeasure? A refund is the least due.

"I've had luck getting stripped Allen bolts out by tapping in a slightly oversized torx bit with a hamner then using a ratchet to remove it.
Might not work with that however."

a ratchet wont, but if he uses a screwdriver sized bit its 1/4 inch and should be able to get a flat wrench on it.

I did that so it matched a purple stock. Maybe not your cup of tea, but I like it fine and that is all that matters.

Congrats, you win! Yep, it was him.

I did Dremel a slot, bought a nice long slot screwdriver... the thing is so torqued I couldn't even nudge the damn screw. And of course I damaged the screw more so the driver is slipping around.
