Downside to no long gun registry...

We'd have to fire back, and show that these firearms haven't been used in crimes, and that wouldn't change in the absence of what was already an ineffective system.

I have a non-restricted XCR-L I will be deer/bear/coyote hunting with it more than almost any other firearms I own I will always have some kind of evidence/paperwork that it is non-restricted with me same reason I carry the paperwork that shows proper transport/storage laws and the RCMP letter stating the LAR 15 10 round 223 pistol mags are legal to use in a rifle...

So stop worrying print off the evidence that you are non-restricted...

It's not rocket science...

:p

If things go as typical,

Police will bust you, charge you with offenses they don't understand, And you will be left holding the bag for the legal bills to prove you did not commit a crime.

After they confiscate all your guns and charge you with additional unsafe storage violations ( because they don't know the rules ).

After a year or so of waiting to get to court .. they will drop the charges .. then all you have to do is pay your lawyer his $20 000 and you are good to go with all your guns back.

See , easy

Thoughts? Ideas on what can be done?

Lets work at getting the classifications thrown out, it's ridiculous that any of our guns are restricted.

police: Are you licensed?
me: yup, here's my PAL
police: Thanks, have a good day!

That keeps it easy for police and Joe public, and everyone is safe.

This is the BEST argument for abolishing Classifications.

It is in fact not reasonable to expect police officers to be able to determine the classification of a firearm with the current system.

It is possible for them to determine if you are licensed to posses firearms.

The current laws are an enforcement nightmare.. consequently unnecessary charges are laid, and society put to all measure of unnecessary expense to unravel the charges.

This alone is sufficient argument to answer the "Public Good" argument for why the legislation needs to be changed.

dude306.. you have my vote.

Yes, but MOST online sales are done through third parties (ebay etc.) or through small home businesses with payment by CC, where the CC offers some buyer protection.

Not true at all. Look at how big Kijiji is. and its from one person to another, no third party.

"GO AWAY!" is the proper response to this kind of BS.

This.

"You're interfering with a legal activity during the operation of dangerous equipment. Lawyer up or f**k off."

Plus, before the stupidity of 12.x "you can't have that really didn't exist". The obvious answer is full repeal.

How about putting the onus on the police to determine that we are doing something illegal?

You guys keep talking nonsense like this and the black helicopters will be coming to take you away for re-education.

If the Crystal balls that everyone seems to be using re: all hunting semi's being banned and moved to "Restricted" are correct (personally I highly doubt it otherwise it would've been done already but I Digress..........) I'll be removing the gas block on my SL-8 welding the port and TahDah its a HK SL-8/G36/R-8Straight Pull Bolt action. I'll still be able to use it for hunting :p

But with it being classed Non Restricted now and more than likely in the future - like CC, I too will be carrying around that little card to show its Non Restricted.

If you are not breaking any firearms laws or provincial/federal hunting rules, and the firearm is non-restricted, then wouldn't unlawful confiscation be bad policing?

Though I absolutely hate what the registry is, there is one small upside.

It provides a level of protection when buying and selling through the mail.

If no paperwork was needed, I can forsee the possibility for a lot more EE deals gone sour.

i agree. did not have to worry about who your dealing with because of the mediator in bewtween.

but i wont be complaining when its gone.. im sure there will still be a number we can call to find out if the person your buying from accualy does have there PAL.. whether or not he accualy owns that rifle will be a diff story

would that not still be classified as a variant though? I could see having to submit it to the RCMP for verification that it couldn't be converted into one of those evil semi-autos....

but really. I think ATT have failed to prevent crimes and will continue to not do anything. it's just another way to make criminals out of honest people.

I can see it now:
"I'm going to go sell 5 kilos of crack with my loaded .25 in my back pocket and illegal body armor on. wait... d*mn I forgot, I better call my probation officer on the phone I'm not allowed to have and get my ATT or else I can't make any sales today"

when did that ever stop them?

People blame the cops.. but they are as trapped by bad law as we are.

It's hard to uphold the law if it is so convoluted that all it does is create doubt and confusion.

There are people here that own guns and don't know the law.

Most police officers don't own guns, and rally don't bump into them all that much. Other than the one they wear

Not blaming anyone, if you're not breaking any laws and you have a lawyer in which you trust, it should be thrown out like any other kind of unlawful confiscation. Its unfortunate that these laws are complicated.

Nope, The HK R-8 is the SL-8 made for Australia, No gas system, hence the welding of gas port and removal of the gas block.

"Black Rifle" Companys have found a niche in Australia by offering their rifles as Straight Pull Bolt Actions, Same guns minus gas system. my friend has an XCR .223 minus the gas system for his "Roo" Rifle - No he's not a professional Roo shooter either.

If its good enough for Australia who is right behind England with F@#ked up gun laws, it "should" be fine here, If it needs to be verified so be it.

I cant see anyone reclassifying anything though. If they re-classify our semi auto's they sure as hell better re-classify all the BAR's, Ruger's, Remington & Winchester semi auto's. One In - ALL IN!
