Downside to no long gun registry...

Straw Purchase problem wouldn't be a big deal here since someone still needs to sign the book at the store (for anyone who doesn't know, the book was what was used before the registry).

If 20 guns end up in bad guys hands the police trace the guns back to STORE where they were originally sold and look in the book... doesn't take long to see who's buying them and then a good 'ol fashioned investigation begins.

I'm down for registering prohibs only, de-restrict everything else.

No, it wouldn't be bad policing unless they tasered you and maybe kicked you in the face for following their instructions while still twitching. Then Crown could run a credit history on you to find out what you're financially capable of, and tell you that you might as well plead to the assault on the officers foot and unsafe storage, because it's going to cost you everything you have times 2 to defend youself, also if you plead they'll just take away your guns and give you a 10 year firearms ban. No criminal record, and no time, so at least you'll be able to keep your job, your house and your wife. Then they'll explain that if you don't plead they'll prefer a lengthy list of charges that once you're convicted of, will have you spend 5 years keeping a homicidal maniac warm in a super max on the top of a mountain 3500 miles away from home. This is what Canadians currently refer to as the Justice System.
 
The only reason would be so that it is being used for something (and a more-likely scenario) that still gives us non-restricted handguns :)
Very unlikely the Conservative gov't would declare MAC-10's, Tec-9's and UZI's Non-Restricted... it's too "Secret Hidden" Agenda'ish.
 
its solveable: proper licensing. Once an individual proves that he/she is capable of safe use of a firearm, who cares about the rest? Just split it into different classes like long guns, hand guns and full-auto. Each having a specific course, practical and written tests along with a background check to ensure the individual recieved proper training, proved they know how to safely handle the firearm, and know what they can and cannot do with it. If someone were caught with a firearm they are not licensed to possess, they get in big s**t (discouraging criminal possession of firearms, with ZERO loopholes to get them out of it) but if theyve got there license and not f**king around then its have a nice day. If you get pulled over with no drivers license, its a nice fine. If you have your vehicle sitting on your property and you have no drivers license....nobody gives a s**t. Why do we need anything different for firearms? Get your drivers license to operate a vehicle, get your firearms license to operate a gun. No other BS is necessary.

+1. There are no practical reasons to register anything, aside from confiscation and keeping the sheep warm and happy in their illusions of safety.

I know I'd be on a 686 walnut-stocked snubby like Oprah on a ham if they were unprohib, and unrestricted, exactly for enjoying it for target shooting.

Always thought the "2 and 4" evil, 6" supposedly not concealable so okay" arguement was ridiculous.
 
Fellas you keep talking about something like reclassification like a bunch of whipped dogs, and they'll give it too you!!! Man up, reclassification is not an option! Write your MP, get active, and do something to protect your rights! I can see the defeatist attitude creeping into the tone of this thread! That is not the road to travel on with respect to this issue!

in the mean time make a stand.. and push for ditching the ATT.

if we all push for the same thing (+ a little) we'll get what we want... so lets add bull pups and m16 variants to the non-restricted listings... we'll probly lose some but we gotta expect a little loss here and there... next we go for confiscation rights
 
Weird how so many got addicted to a 15-year old crutch. Our EE works better than Ebay because you can generally read 1000 or so posts of the seller and see that he is a real person.

Guns should not be registered period. The legal definition of non-restricted still applies... not that the whole government controlling guns isn't just a crutch to begin with for a bunch of paranoid sheep that want everything done for them, by the magical government.

Control people, not objects. Get the community involved.

Relying ont the registry for transfers is fairly foolish as well. It has enough clerical errors in it that I'm not particularly willign to trust anything it says.
