The anti's who visit here....and yes they do.....just got themselves a new statistic......

45% of IPSC shooters polled admit to being unsafe with their firearms

You DQ way before you've done anything unsafe. That's kind of the point.

Or is the sky falling?

... the 1911 fell out of my holster onto the ground.....Oops. Hoping that nobody was looking I picked it up and reholstered it, but the RO was paying attention and had to send me home.

Shortly after that the rulebook was updated and a gun falling out of the holster while not during a course of fire would not have earned me a DQ, but me picking it up and reholstering it without a RO supervising would have still earned me a DQ....

Actually the DQ was kinda nice as I finally got to get out of the rain :)
Even in 1991, you would not have been DQ'ed for dropping the gun outside of a course of fire, of course picking it up was another story... That rule hasn't changed...

I had that happen during my Black Badge course with one of my instructors and since then whenever I step up to the line I tell the RO that I drop mags with my trigger finger.

Hey Clammy are you planning on coming out to any of the IPSC matches at the RA Center? We have to get your Qualifier out of the way and start having fun.

I'm going to try. I haven't even had the time to get out to the range since mid July or so... :(

Cheers!

No you DQ when being unsafe.......you don't DQ by being safe...there is a don't break 90 rule for a reason......91 is unsafe...and that when you DQ...just one example......finger in trigger guard during a mag change....etc etc etc

And if you read enough on this site many are convinced that , yes the sky is falling

Most of our safety rules have some redundancy built into them. Breaking 90 is not going to cause bad things if your finger is not on the trigger. Having your finger on the trigger is not going to cause bad things if you are pointing downrange. We get DQed when the first level of redundancy is breached, that is, before bad things can happen.

91deg is an infraction against the rules of IPSC, not against any other legalities of firearms. 91 is still pointed into a berm, an acceptable place to point a firearm in the eyes of the law.

Man, coltfan, that wasn't one of your more imaginative attempts at stirring up s**t, now was it?:p

I guess he is slipping...............it is a shame to see a good man go downhill like this..

I thought that was your job Joe?

LOL;)

I DQed at Russellmania 2006.

Same stage as Clammy but I made it a little farther. I swept my arm opening a door (second door on the course). I saw what I did wrong and will not do it again.

But I have competed since and have not.

They say that if you drive long enough you will be involved in a car crash; if you live long enough you will get cancer; if you blind-call enough poor saps someone will buy whatever crap you are selling on the phone; if you ask enough people for spare change someone will give it to you.....

I guess being DQ'd in IPSC is a numbers game like anything else. I got involved in IPSC in 1985 or 86, and was starting to feel a little invincible for a while there. Smug even. There's nothing like a 16 hour drive after blowing out on the first stage at an area championship on your birthday to get reacquainted with reality. It happens to everyone, and I think we all need these little reminders once in a while to keep us honest, mindful and humble about what we do.

Nope, Dan made a bad call, and was happy about it. I didn't want to DQ your pa. He's a good guy.

Yes.... 2006 Alberta Provincials, trying to clear a multiple jam on a difficult stage, finger in the trigger. Oh well the first official one in 5 or so years of shooting IPSC. Bad finger, bad bad.

in Grenville summer of 05, gun fell out of holster before I drew it out while turning, we were short RO's and it started to rain and I was trying to finish the stage so I could continue RO'ing in a big hurry

and being the match director I felt really dumb
