After a year of patiently tracking down all of the components I've finally built my "Dream AR"!
The following images contain captions with complete details, technical specifications and a broken-down list of parts. The
'acid burn' effect bordering the images was just me messing around in Photoshop... Some portions of the photos may
appear slightly brighter than others due to the way the flash hit (but the gun is almost pitch black).
Heckler and Koch HK416D
As you can tell from the following photos, the satin finish and colour-filled markings on the POF lower are an almost
identical match to the HK 416 upper. The advantage of the POF is that it offers some ambidextrous features and has
a really awesome oversize trigger guard that has been integrated into the receiver. That and since you can't legally
own a 416D lower (full-auto), the 416D upper works with any standard AR lower (unlike the HK MR223).
Heckler and Koch 416 Upper
° HK416D gas-piston upper receiver, proprietary HK free-floating rail system
° 10.4" cold hammered-forged barrel (1:7 RH twist, 20,000-rnd service life) with Knight Triple Tap flash hider
° Magpul AFG (advanced forward grip), ladder protectors and LaRue Tactical LT-Fug (forward universal grip)
° Magpul MBUS, LaRue Tactical LT-660HK Aimpoint mount and Aimpoint T-1 red-dot optic
° HK full-auto bolt and carrier group and BCM Gunfighter Mod 4 charging handle (swapping for an ambi later)
POF-USA Lower
° POF 415-SA-GIII lower receiver (ambidextrous bolt and safety release), POF-USA lower parts kit
° HK spring and buffer, HK combat grip and Magpul UBR stock (with enhanced buttpad)
° HK cleaning/repair kit, HK combat sling and HK German 416/5.56x45mm Nato 30-rnd magazines
° Still trying to track down a beavertail version of the HK combat grip w/storage (variant 1)...
A close-up of the POF lower that highlights the flared magwell and integrated oversize trigger guard. I wasn't able to
install a Magpul BAD as the POF sports a larger ridge around the bolt release (will have to go third party).
The other side of the POF lower with ambidextrous bolt and safety (not yet installed).
A close-up of the HK bolt carrier group and LaRue quick-release mount.
The proprietary HK rail system; the whole fore-end comes off for easy maintenance and cleaning.
I managed to fit both a forward and vertical grip on the lower rail (may shorten the vertical grip yet).
The heavier Magpul UBR stock helps balance out the weight on the front-heavy HK receiver.
The LaRue HK-specific mount allows cowitness with the Magpul MBUS and Aimpoint T-1.
The Knights Armament Triple Tap flash hider, complete with upside down logo (a collector's item no doubt!)
