Drool boys, just drool Moose Down BCL102

nice moose....hope it went down clean.... 308 a little light for moose IMHO

I figure I owe it to the animal to shoot the hardest hitting round that I can shoot accuratly. Every moose I ever shot I used my .338 WIN mag.....one clean shot ....drops em like a tree....hydrostatic shock from such a fast heavy round kills instantly...no suffering at all

maybe just me...I hate to see em suffer

That's funny stuff right there.

My friend just got his moose with the BCL102

Nice moose!

Nice moose. First moose in Canada shot with a modern sporting rifle maybe.

Maybe it's the first with the BCL-102, but definitely not the first with a "Modern sporting rifle" and if you'd care to expand the definition of MSR to include older designs like the FN-FALL and actual USGI M-14s, there's likely thousands.

I'm a big proponent of Ruark's Rule to "Use enough gun!" I also pride myself on being an ethical hunter. However, I don’t see too many experienced moose hunters setting the .338 Win Mag as the minimum for moose. They may be big, but they're not particularly hard to kill, especially if you put a bullet where they live.

Incidentally, I'd say that at least half of the 40,000+ moose harvested in Newfoundland each year are taken with a sporterized .303 British Lee-Enfield shooting the cheapest cup and core 180gr factory load the license holder could buy or borrow. It kills swamp donkeys just fine.

The .308 Win is a definite step up from the .303 British and I've harvested at least a dozen or more using each caliber. If the finances work out I hope to be the first in Newfoundland to harvest a moose with a BCL-102 next fall, assuming I'm not beaten to the punch this season. I have complete confidence in the .308 Win to effectively, efficiently and humanely harvest any moose on the planet. Kudos once more to the gentleman who harvested the animal pictured above in the OP.

I don't like to see an animal suffer either. I'd have full confidence in the 308. I'm sure it handles moose just fine.
Good job! It's good to see that we Canadians can use an MSR to hunt.

I've seen no appreciable difference in the speed or efficacy of the .308Win compared to the .30-06Sprg, and I don’t think anyone would argue the. '06 isn't up to the task of taking any moose in Canada. I too would love to see more MSR style rifles afield.

"Modern sporting rifle"??? ...... Adding a plastic collapsible stock and a huge mag hardly makes it modern.

Compared to the basic Mauser pattern bolt action first produced in the 19th century, and which most current hunting rifles are based, it is! :)

How is that possible? My father-in-law told me you can't kill a moose with a .308, just wound it... I personally love the .308 to shoot, nice accurate, mild cartridge, that does the job just fine, good job OP!

Not being familiar with a BCL 102 my first thought was please don't tell me that someone went moose hunting with a .223. However after reading further I realized it is a .308 which is all you need for moose if you put the shot where it counts. I use a 30-06 but my first was with a .303 British.
