Ducks Unlimited vs angry gunowners

Maybe all that federal funding is why they stayed out of promoting petition e-2341. I guess they were afraid of having the funding pulled

It's 100% why, anyone saying other wise is being naive. It's also why their previous president is also on the Fire arms advisory comity. You rub our backs with this rifle and semi auto ban, and we'll give you cash for your green projects. Makes the liberals look good to the environmentalists who hate anything to do with hunting and the outdoors when it includes humans in it. And gets ducks unlimited more money to turn themselves into a purely land conservation organization. Watch them in the not so distant future ban hunting on all DU lands. Because conservation of ducks does not need hunters only wetlands.

Insurance companies complain about increasing wildlife collision claims on our roads. Certainly aviation unexpected/unwanted airborne collisions with migratory birds has to be an ever increasing danger at airports and airstrips.

I don't propose whipping them out but certainly DU policies can only exasturbate this not uncommon flight safety hazard.

Mathematically there is only is one logical conclusion.
More birds equals more airborne dangers.

Edit; DU should foot the bill partially for bird control at all airports airstrips along major flyways.

Anyone wish to add to this subject?

I’m not in the DU side about guns but really?
I’m pretty sure them providing better places for ducks than airports keeps way more away from them than it attracts
Your grasping at straws here

I’m a working commercial pilot, and frankly this is hogwash. I get that you want to bring down the image of Ducks Unlimited here and I’m really not interested in why, that’s your prerogative, I know what they do. Ducks providing habitats on flyways keeps waterfowl off the airports as FishHog nails.

Geese are the biggest risk, but the exposure time is during take off and landing, and geese like to graze big grassy areas when their preferred habitat is in short supply. Airports happen to have large grassy areas, frequently placed on flat land in former waterfowl habitat, surrounded by city that’s useless to them. Guess where they go.

You can hate on Ducks because they aren’t interested in signing a semi auto guns petition, but you really shouldn’t start making stuff up or at least completely guessing to do so. And to help on the vehicle collisions the reason isn’t more wildlife, it’s more roads and traffic.

“The beatings will continue until morale improves.” comes to mind in this discussion.

So I should not make stuff up. Such as advertise myself or organization as something that looks like it supports hunters and thier duck guns but in actual fact I am not, yet I still have a seat federal firearms advisory committee?
In the real world this is called hypocracy. So much of it in Ottawa last couple of years.

Just like that huh?

We can all quack about this until our tail feathers fall out but this position they have taken is costing them members regardless some that have supported DU for many many years
Cheers

If Canadian gun owner associations were even partially as organized as DUC we wouldn't need an e-petition, let alone care about a conservation groups neutral stance on it.

Why doesn't the NFA have fund raising dinners in small towns across Canada?
All these big spenders boycotting DUC would love to blow their wad there. Or would they?

You bet! I would for sure. As would most people I know.

Then start up your local dinner, you already know all the folks to get it going with the most people you know.

I contribute $250 from every hunt to conservation, that’s my preferred cause, I encourage those who’s preferred cause is semis to do their own version. No jest in this, it’s what will make the difference, money talks.

Already belong to and on the board of several volunteer groups. I’m stretched thin enough.

Glad we got something for the billions of dollars the feds gave them since the early 80's other than buck's hat :) . 2018 alone is pretty significant IMO

OTTAWA, ON – Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) welcomes major investments in wildlife habitat conservation announced today in the 2018 Federal Budget. New funding of $1.3 billion is one of the most significant investments in nature conservation in Canadian history.Feb 27, 2018

Cheers

Glassdoor lists DUC as having 201-500 employees as well. Annual revenues of $25-50 Million.

I wonder how much of the Federal money actually wound up in the mashes and improvement projects?.....

Ironically, the CSSA has reached out to my chapter of Delta Waterfowl last week. They're looking to get some exposure with our dinners.

I know what you mean with three little kids and two jobs myself, so I don’t judge here. We all like to sign petitions and argue on the internet and feel that’s effecting change, but only a minority donate hard cash and their even more precious time (beyond their laptop or phone), which is what really makes the difference. In reality if there was a groundswell to donate to the NFA or whoever and build it to Ducks Unlimited proportions it would be happening, somebody would be passionate enough to organise it. In Canada there just isn’t, and conservation is a far bigger cause here than guns. In the states it’s quite the opposite, just different realities and priorities.

communication is the key: NRA was only for shooters and hunters at the beginning nothing as how militant and powerful they are.

it is the same all across the western world or most of it except Switzerland and Finland and aside the States, divided and conquered is was happened to all the shooters and hunter and this is what we got here.
