Ducks Unlimited vs angry gunowners

That's a staggering difference when you consider that the American population is 10 times larger than Canada's.

Agreed!! What he probably meant is 4 million are harvested in Canada and probably 2/3 of those are American hunters here on the prairies. Outfitting businesses rely on US hunters. Without them they wouldn't have enough clientelle to survive!! Period!!

Am I the only one who thinks all the good this organization has done kinda outweighs this whole petition thing? I don't see any gun shops, gun orgs, ect..that have purchased land and allow anyone access to hunt, hike, photograph ect,,, Land owners are increasingly becoming hostile to hunters, in portions of southern Sask almost 90% is private. DU lands and some SWF is about all a person can hunt. Plus they actively go out and purchase new stuff as well as keep an eye on the waterfowl in Canada.
I signed the petition and am against any more heavy handed gun laws but am not angry with Ducks Unlimited for being neutral. Im wondering if these people bashing DU will opt out of using the land they secured as well.?? Only people that are gonna loose out here are hunters IMHO. Whats your thoughts as a hunter?

I’m quite surprised that landowners in southern Saskatchewan are becoming hostile to hunters. However, it’s been 22 years since I hunted the south in Saskatchewan. Hunting there between the years of 1988 to 1998 I was very well received by landowners. What occured to cause such hatred? As for DU, they have done quite well, over the decades, to say the least. Thousands upon thousands of acres of land they purchased, not only waterfowl but for big game as well. I look at the cup half full in regards to what they have achieved, and not frown upon them if they were stuck with a catch-22 situation, especially if the current federal government is involved, in particular Trudeau.

Well sir. I was there Jan 1990 until Sept 2000. Myself I made good friends while in Moose Jaw who owned land Outlook, Baildon, Chetwynn, Avonlea, Claybank, Mortlach, near Buffalo Pound and Que Appelle River Valley. Rarely did I experience a refusal to hunt.
It's what you make of it yourself and I suspect you did the same.
A person can make true friends with farmers and this included square bail harvest, fence repair etc, or just make acquaintences that the rancher/rural landowner only sees once a year in the fall.
That's how I rolled, meaning I made good friends who trusted me in thier pasture.

Let's clear up some things. James couch is Not a CEO ! He is a volunteer who is on the board of DU. In spite of what Jay insists he is there as an individual not as a DU rep. Read the terms of reference for that committee. Orgs cannot be on that committe . This has been pointed out on other threads but certain individuals refuse to believe that. Unfortunately being the internet the one who stays at the keyboard the longest believes his position is the correct one . Flame away Jay !

A fascinating study in mental gymnastics...

Maybe study the map instead. Hunt much?

He WAS the CEO when he accepted appointment to the committee and he REMAINS a Board member now. If there was to be no link then WHY are his credentials as CEO listed on the notice?

I'm so disappointed in Canadian gun enthusiasts not discerning who is friend or foe. A conservation organization does not need to fight the gun fight. The gun fight is something else. Enjoy the outdoors and waterfowl whether or not you are a hunter or gun owner. Please take the the gun ban people to task. That is a good fight. But refusing to support a conservation organization? Vey foolish. Being angry at everybody who doesn't exactly see things your way is futile and counterproductive. In the end you'll be all alone, talking to yourself and angry at everybody who isn't you. Sad that it has come to this.

^^^^ Well said.

And if DU looses all its funding and sells off its land my guns are useless anyway, I do all my hunting and trapping on public land, most of which is owned by DU.

Dont worry... it was pretty obvious the people defending DU were doing so for their personal hunting reasons and didnt care about the wider firearms issue... apparently the conservation issue gets everyone out of bed tho :)

Message received loud and clear....

And instead of saying to DU they handled it poorly, apparently it was easier to just accuse other gun owners of divisiveness

He is on Ducks Unlimited's Board of Directors.

He was the President of Ducks Unlimited Canada when he was appointed to the Firearms Advisory Committee by Minister Ralph Goodale in 2017.

He is on the FAC because of his affiliation with DU, which lends legitimacy to whatever this fed gov plans to do to firearms owners despite there being no public safety concern with the lawful ownership of firearms.

Let's be honest, Canadians don't know they are being hoodwinked by DU Canada. I say this because I believe if Canadians were asked why they thought the former President of DU Canada and current member of DU's Board of Directors was on the FAC, they would say he was there to represent hunters & by default, firearms owners.

This is my deduction of the situation as well. They aren't staying neutral but actively taking a position against us.

I have been in Canada for almost 15 years, attended many fund-raising events held by DUC. My first eye opener was when they gave out a semi-automatic shotgun to a lucky winner of a lottery. It went through the hands of 3 of the executive board members at the 'high-table' before being presented to the lucky winner. You know instantly who is used to handling firearms, and this was like passing an AR at a Liberal Fundraiser, it was painfully obvious not one of them was familiar with handling a gun.

Upon enquiring further, it appeared the nearest you got to a hunter on the executive board at that time was one who liked to run his dog, a retriever, but he did not hunt.

See this organisation for what it has become, a land conservation company which will fully convert to such once hunting has been abolished. It is way ahead on that transition, just look deeper as to who runs and manages it. More environmentalist than hunter and by some too.

Here is a "F" prime example of support . From Toronto Airsoft, take note all Buisness's/Orgs/Federations who "couldn't" take the time to post on there website. HOOYAH!
