DU is a widely known, and accepted conservation group. It they have a position other than the one their members think they do, they have an obligation to that membership to be up front about that. Particularly when it's a recent shift. It certainly shouldn't need to be dragged out of them through a very public backlash.

DU continues to say they are focused on conservation, and that's FINE! But you don't then get to stab us all in the back by being on the Firearms Advisory Committee!

By being neutral on the e-petition, DU is throwing ALL firearms owners under the bus. The reason we are not seeing any left leaning Main Stream Media talk about the e-petition (remember that 600 Million...) is they know that NON-firearms owners will sign the petition because it's NOT just about firearms, it's about democratic process and not penalizing law abiding Canadians by taking away private property when there is no public safety risk associated with lawful ownership.

Just imagine the numbers of signatures on e-petition 2341 if all Canadians were aware of it!

Last year I attended a DU dinner at which they had a presentation by a firearms lobbyist. Is that a neutral position? It certainly doesn't seem that way. The "We don't advocate for gun ownership or hunting." they were telling people on Wednesday morning also doesn't seem neutral. Since the backlash is where they found their "We like hunters, but we're neutral on guns." position. If they said that from the jump, there'd be no issue from most people and a smaller issue from even the sqeuakiest of wheels.

I'm kind of curious, do you think hunters' use of DU land will be in perpetuity?

He is a member of the general public, a firearm owner. Anybody from the public can petition the government.

And the position is the "conservation of firearms" Get out of the "blind" so you can see the bigger picture.

A firearms lobbyist isn't employed by DUC. They do however employ government lobbyists. That promote conservation of wetlands.
Is DUC the first organization that comes to mind when you think about gun rights and lobby groups? I sure hope not.

I definitely am seeing the bigger picture in this particular discussion, and would implore others to. The reality is Ducks Unlimited has done 83 years of good and conservation, yet some in a niche Canadian Internet forum are in fits that a conservation organization doesn’t want to sign a petition aimed to fight laws on semi automatic guns. The bigger picture is Ducks isn’t the enemy no matter how hard one wants to try and tear them down for not taking a position on semi auto guns in Canada. As I said before they could have handled this better, but frankly this forum’s response is far worse than Ducks Unlimited’s.
 
Wetland conservation is a worthy cause, but my observation is that DU has lost its way lately, they've started parroting the 'climate change' BS for example.
 
Now who's being naive. It's not getting warmer in duck country. 1961-1990 was the warmest.

DU and local CO's sometimes sponsor or help with youth duck hunts, and teach duck cleaning and sausage prep.

So if they help get new young hunters into the sport, they're some benefit to the shooting community.

No guns, no shooting community, no young hunters. I think canadian firearm owners would be a bit more lenient if;

-they were not scrubbing the petition
-they did not have a "member" sitting on the firearms committee

60y of sitting on the side lines is the reason why we are here...

Anyone who is attacking DU is simply looking to place blame or is a complete imbecile. It's actually quite sad that some morons on CGN think any organization that's related to firearms MUST promote this petition or they are the enemy.

The one thing about this petition is it has brought out the whack jobs who're seemingly mentally unstable.


This crap should be locked before CGN gets dragged down even farther. Pathetic...

It's funny about a hour ago the mrs and I were talking about this and she doesn't hunt and hates guns in fact wishes there was none in canada

Her words one of the biggest reasons you guys are in the mess you are in with your guns is because the big organizations you guys support like DU that have the power to help either take a neutral stance or stay on the side lines

Funny how she can see it. I wonder who is mentally stable here or has their head in the sand
