Hmmm, I'm not certain that the British Royal Navy did this with their small arms. If that were the case I would expect to see the names of vessels inscribed into every bloody piece of kit. Every musket, every cutlass, every cartridge box would have the name of the vessel, we don't see that.
We'll assume that this isn't the Duke of York's personal flintlock, I'm assuming that it isn't the vessel either so someone getting a wee bit creative with an old piece? (I'm not suggesting the OP, but 100 years ago who knows who's influenced this arm?)
