Are you sure its a genuine E.A.L. ? I am NOT an expert but all the E.A.L. rifles I have seen have the letters of the manufacturer lined up fairly straight and have a 'period' after each letter...this one seems like there wasnt very much care taken in stamping the name...but again...I am not an expert!

Is there a rear sight? It appears to be at the back of the receiver .... to answer your question...I do not know.

butt stock is wrong, reciever is wrong markings are wrong. Only 8000 or so were made. Stock, reciever, barrel etc were made by E.A.L. and items such as trigger group is sourced to Long Branch. E.A.L. should fetch a premium over a Long Branch which is why people like to say they have one.

joesalter.ca has one for sale for the low price of $1395. And E.A.L. serial numbers begin at E.A.L.2000 and the military variant E.A.L.6000.

A lot more info has surfaced since I did the original treatise on the .303 cal. EAL and some three digit numbers do exist.
There is also a .22 Hornet version however I have only heard of two, seen one and have a couple parts off one.
The company that made them is long gone and EAL would not talk to me when I contacted them in person many years ago.
However, the company has changed hands a few times since the early days and I doubted at the time if anyone would be able to help me and I was not disappointed.

Your EAL is genuine. The 3 digit sn is not as common as the later sn's. The "EAL" and sn was hand stamped on the early ones. Yours is identical to mine. Hard to believe anybody would "fake" one of these. As somebody pointed out, the butt stock is not correct and been changed at some point in time. It could be put back to original. I think I've got a couple butt stocks somewhere in the shop. As Mr Wheatfield will tell us all, there are a number of variations as these were produced for various organizations and sporting goods stores. Ron

It's too bad somebody scribed that number on your EAL.

It's the early style as described by Wheaty. I've seen a few with numbers under 1000, and have spoken to people that have seen one with a 2 digit s/n.

But, someone has taken off the 200/400 overstamped Mk II flip rear sight and substituted a Mk I micrometer sight. Since the stripper clip guide has been milled off by the company Wheaty mentioned, there's no support for that long sight at the front.

Does the buttstock have a red rubber Jostams recoil pad on it?

Does that buttstock have the Jostams pad, or a plastic pad that says Bishop or similar on it?

Are the buttstock sling swivel and the forend sling swivel both the same?

Would love to see more pics of your rifle if you could.

I have a pair of EALs - one commercial and one military style.

Military has # in 3000 range. Commercial is 3 digit. See below.

I am about to list these on EE. Thanks for reminding me i still have them.

I also have an EAL with a 3 digit serial # and have seen a few others.

Would you be able to post the pictures you had showing the butt stock on this one? So folks can see how the early ones (pre 1000?) differ from later ones.

Your other rifle by the way is not a military EAL. It is a civilian model that may or may not been altered.

Do you have a picture of that one looking down on the rear of the receiver?

So, yes it appears to be a Canadian driver's license. Its etched on the trigger guard also. If you look at it in the right light it used to say "303 cal" . I'll take more pics
