Edmonton-area 3-gun??? Help a newbie get out and watch/play please.

I know. The last time I was working Saturdays (summer 08) I missed a LOT of shooting.

I think my boss is the type of guy to let me find some balance, because I love to make money just as much as I love to shoot stuff.

Always happens man. I missed a good deal of last year due to illness as well.

Need cashflow to feed the habit :)

Just stumbled on this thread, i've been looking at 3 gun for awhile and definitely plan on coming out to see how its done!.... oops totally responded to an earlier thread regarding WRAS.....

I just started shooting WRAS last year. Went to range with my shadow and a duck gun. Guys were great. Bought out some ammo and borrowed a sweet AR-15 shorty from some friendly guys. Needless to say in the next little while bought a Norc AR, a used Mossberg 590 and had even more fun. Hoping to make a few more matches this year.

As for handguns, they advised retention and ability to roll and go prone so an open gun and speed holster were not recommended. (not encouraged either!)

Go to a match. If short of guns, take lots of ammo and you will be GTG.

The theme is fun over competitiveness, at least for me anyways so bring what ya got!

Cheers

Aren't we all :)

One WRAS event, someone else was shooting the shotgun courses with a 20" "duck gun" and doing very well too!.

I just picked up my pelican case. Big enough to fit rifle, shotgun, two pistols and another rifle/shotgun if I needed to.

Tired me out carrying three sometimes four cases from each course... Now I can consolidate everything into one nice roller.

Now I need to sell off the other cases to raise money for ammo!.

I have a 590, but I'm considering using my berreta extrema II. Semi auto, low recoil, faster shots. Seems a better choice. But I would like to get good with a pump.

Bring them both :)

I usually have my 590 as backup to the 930 now and for anyone else who want's to use it.

Having run both, when it comes to reloading (which you will have to do anyways) both have their quirks. Pump have the capacity, Semis have the speed.

This is something I was thinking about yesterday, and I feel like such a 'noob' for asking...

... but a semi-auto IS still limited to 5 rounds as a shotgun, yes? Whereas with the pumps we can slam on the +5 extensions and give'r?

I never really thought about shotgun capacity since I use mine for birdgame and therefore have to plug 'em...

(Now, where's my "noob of the year" award? I know I put it here SOMEwhere...)

Yes, still needs to be to 5 rounds. However my berreta is made for 3 1/2" so I supppose I can load up a few extra 2 3/4" ;)

Some grey area there I know that I don't want to discuss.

Yeah, I get that for sure... hahaha!

From the CFC site:

Q7. What is the maximum number of cartridges that a firearm magazine can legally hold?

A7. As set out in Criminal Code Regulations, some large-capacity magazines are prohibited regardless of the class of firearm to which the magazines are attached. As a general rule, the maximum magazine capacity is:

* 5 cartridges for most magazines designed for a semi-automatic centre-fire long gun; or
* 10 cartridges for most handgun magazines

A large-capacity magazine is not prohibited if it has been permanently altered so that it cannot hold more than the number of cartridges allowed by law. Acceptable ways to alter a magazine are set out in the regulations.

There is no limit to the magazine capacity for semi-automatic rim-fire long guns, or for other long guns that are not semi-automatics.

I thought that was the case, I just needed to run it through my head again for clarification...

As of this moment we are not going either way with regards to open guns.. my feelings aside, if you are able to do the CoF safely, you can use your Race Gun. But like anything else, safety comes first and this year you may want to leave your "race gun" at home and bring your Production/ Standard pistol with you with a full retention holster.

We are waitinig on them to be approved ourselves. We will be putting up posts here and on other forum as well as our website, as soon as they are confirmed. http://www.wrasalberta.com/

The only real differance between the two is mag capacity.

I've been finding the 930 has less felt recoil then the 590, seems abit handier because of the lighter aluminum receiver.

But again, pumps have the capacity and semis have the speed :)

I'm sure you enjoy ghost loading your 930 to 7 rounds too right? :p

you are correct, pump shotguns can hold what ever for as long as the magazine extension cannot be used on a semi. if it can then it could be considered a prohibitive device.
