My .02
The main difference between the Storm and all the other guns at the two 3 - guns I shot...was reliability. At EOHC, 9 people shot the Storm and it didn't fail once. All the Garands, SKS'a and even the AR's were jamming, failing to feed etc...
At EOHC, there was no single position that required more than 5 rounds. Steve designed it to take away any advantange of using 10 round mags...no advantage to the Storm
At ESSA, there was an advantage on the first stage (first poistion prone) and no advantage on the last stage. The feild course was close. There were positions with more than 5 shots. Over all...a slight advantage to the Storm.
I agree with you on balance...but keep in mind that any target at 125 meters or more...is pretty much an "unvitation" for anyone using a pistol caliber rifle. I could see putting them out to about 150 and giving the option of running to a closer position...that would be intersting...and mean.
But yes...if the target are all grouped in 3's and 4's (two rounds each) and 75 meters or under...the Storms are going to kick ass...
I just got my Olympic Arms AR15 that takes the Glock 22 mags...nice. The trigger is better than the Storm but the Storm is much easier to shoot (better ergonomics) It's much more pistol like...
