Get the Elcan DR. They are very good sights.
here is a Spectre review from a soldier who is using it in Iraq! From the very tip of the pointy end so to speak.

What i get from reading that article is yes he is in Iraq and the optic is back home.
It all comes down to personal preference, what are you using it for!
Something that works for some, might not work for you.
Read the whole ARFCOM thread. Just from reading his reasoning behind lack of white light on his carbine lets me know what his opinion's worth...

By pointy end I meant he was in Iraq..not 100 yards in front of the pointy end like certain crazy mofo's here..He may be in Iraq but unless he stripped down his rifle for the review he is FAR from the pointy end. Notice no IR laser/illum, not even an old PEQ2A...no white light either. With a setup like his it is unlikely he leaves the wire often, if ever.

So what is the rifle going to be used for? and how much cash do you want to drop?
Those two questions could be most important.
And we have a winner!Ding Ding Ding! And we have a winner!
What do you want to do with it is the first question you should be asking yourself. After you know that then you can figure out what will work best for you.
TSE has the Trigicon TR24 now if you are looking for a 1-4x optic.
Best 1x I have looked through. Could use some more aiming points on the recticle for shooting at distance but the triangle post at 1x is really something for CQB stuff.
Gas Can
I have been researching what optics to mount on my AR. Needless to say that has meant a lot of time on this site. I am leaning toward an Elcan unit, in this case a Spectre DR, for various reasons. First is availability. As much as I like Trijicon, an Elcan is easier to get.
TSE is starting to carry some of the ACOGs as well - unfortunately they sell out fairly fast when they do get a shipment in. ( there are a number in stock currently for the ~1200 mark)
I've taken a look though the Trijicon TR24s? too, and they seem to be a decent, lightweight, inexpensive option for a varriable 1-4 with an illuminated triangle 'dot'.
As already stated, you should narrow your parameters a bit more, as there is a good cross section of shooters here who have good experience with most stuff out there that may or may not be ideal to the tasks you have in mind.
