The more I think about it the more this elk hunt pisses me off. Issueing 70 tags for a herd of 300-400 bodies. A total cash grab by charging for applications. Using hunters to manage problem animals on a small area instead of managing elk for the long term. Why is the MNR not moving problem animals to areas that don't have elk? I'm all for elk hunting in Ontario, but someday when they are established and it's for the right reasons.

The OMNR can't even afford to put gas in their trucks or pay overtime for CO's. They are going to wreck the Elk Herd.

elk are no problem like wolf and coyote are the big problem here

i think thay opened it to take some of the older ones out as you know thay have not been huntable here for a long time so some of the older one's are going to die any way why not let hunters take them and use the meat

They can say what they want, but the real reason they opened a season is because landowners and farmers are on the verge of removing the elk themselves.

McSquinty knows he's goin to get the boot this fall so he's gonna grab that fast cash!

It will be interesting to see how many people fork over the $17 too enter the draw for 70 or so tags . I wonder if the MNR will publish the # of applicants? At least you don't have to pay unless you get drawn for a tag. Not like moose hunting, where you pay whether you get a tag or not.

must get drawn....will be hard ... find them... Harder ...Get permission... HARDDDDDDDDDDD

I also read that in the elk herd areas, that the elk are damaging farmer's cash crops, so the MNR is issuing nuisiance tags to these people...

Not true. Our camp and all our nighbours property is in the center of the problem herd and we are applying for tags like everyone else.
