Ellwood Epps customer service -- unhappy!

Well, I just received my brand new S&W 22A semi auto. Upon receiving it, I found it to be defective in that it would not #### (took it to a local smith who confirmed that it indeed would not work. I called Epps and informed them of the problem. They told me to ship it to the warranty depot in Chat-ham ON. I asked if I could return it to them and was told yes and they would send it to the depot for repair -- would not exchange. On the initial purchase, I was charged $22.39 for freight -- now I'll have to pay another $22.00 to ship to warranty and perhaps another $22.00 for it to come back to me when repaired. Customer Service -- sympathy non!

It is sad to see that this thread has gotten so side tracked. I am still unclear what the bad customer service is from this post. Not enough sympathy? What did you want them to do? Cry on the phone, beat their breasts, wail, nash their teeth then flog themselves out of pity?
It seems that the employee explained what needed to be done, and the OP is mad about the gun itself. I do not see this as being bad service from Epps.
As far as the $22 shipping charge, some people will spend more to drive back to a store to return something.
I am glad to see that they found a way to help out the OP, so I think that this thread should be nuked.

This is a long thread but i dont think epps should have left a customer in a position where they need to vent and than try to save their reputation and offer solutions. A bit of the too little too late. Retailers should back up the products they sell and try to do everything in their power to fix issues that slip through. Customer service is everything in every market and this sort of thread is how customers are lost. I hope other retailers consider the sort of business they can lose just because of 10,20 or even 100 dollars in shipping that they don't want to cover or the product that they don't want to deal with the manufacturer about.

So by your claim it is fine for all of these forum members to voice their opinions and generate all this negativity toward Ellwood Epps, but it is not in our best interest as a company to explain our policies and procedures so that you may all understand the guidelines under which we operate? How very democratic of you.

I say let this thread live on and serve as a testament to the other side of story. Harrier views it as our democratic right.

That's too bad! I had a good dealing with epps a year ago. But you win some you lose some. I think that's epps should back up his product. Service is everything. Especially when thier competing for YOUR money:) hope all works out bro!

I called epps a couple weeks ago to try to find out some information(Price difference) between redding & dillon .308 dies. I can't recall the guy's name I talked to, the convo lasted all of about 20 seconds. Wouldn't give me the time of day. When I asked him the price difference between the 2, he actually told me and I quote, "I have NO idea". If he'd have spent 1 minute checking the price difference, he'd very likely have gotten me to stop in there on my next trip up north, but I guess it was too much to ask.
I call this fishing, myself. Call up a place - if they won't give you the time of day on the phone, I'm certainly not going to waste my time and hard earned money to try to convince them to sell me a product. I drive past epps at least 20 times a year on my way to Sudbury/Huntsville and have stopped in before but won't bother again after that.
Also, I really hope he reads this and takes his head out of his arse.
Edit: Also, retailers & people alike have yet to learn just how powerful the internet has become. This ONE thread has almost 10 000 views as of today, in a period of less than 2 days. Just think what that must be doing to their reputation, and how this could have been just the opposite - likely the guy would have been thrilled with a straight up exchange; enough so to post a positive review.

I am sorry if what I said has offended you in some way but I am telling it as I see it and reserve the right to have an opinion and express it in a civilized manner, perhaps you could do the same.!!!

that's exactly what I did, and now you are all up in arms, because you don't agree with it.
So much about your civilization....
