embarrassing question

Yep, just a name. Just like:

22 Eargesplitten Loudenboomer (A 378 Weatherby case necked down to 22 caliber)

17 Flintstone Super Eyebunger (17-250)

I think what I didn't understand was how manufacturers produced ammunition in other names- like Remingtion 3030WIN or Federal 45ACP. Now that I understand the history, the rest makes lots of sense.

To the OP :yingyang: , there is a cartridge called the .45 Winchester (Win) Magnum (Mag), and it is both longer and loaded to higher pressures than the .45 ACP....

Another cartridge combo that'll mess with your mind is the .38 ACP/.38 Super....

thabooshi- that's the sound of my head exploding from an information overload.

10 years ago when I got into locksmithing, it was the same thing. Then I slowly put the pieces together and it was all OK at the end.

Alls London, with ammo there really are no embarrassing or dumb question, better to ask a dumb question than to have dumb mistake that could cost you a gun or an eye.

There's been a couple of printable charts posted a few months. If you can't find them, pm me. I might still have them. Lots of the names/numbers will make wayyyyy more sense.
