I got this barrel in a trade. I was told it was made by Colt. I put it up for sale because there's a complete Colt ar for sale I want.
A knowledgable regular pm'ed me and said the feed ramp was messed with.
Opinions?

don't worry. someone with a dremel made some 'm4' feed ramp. drop it on a lower and see if it feed from a mag. if it does, don't worry any more. if it don't either dremel some more or just get another barrel or have a smith instal a new extension

My question is ...why? And is this dangerous?

My guess is that Bubba was trying to replicate M4 feed ramps or trying to overcome a feed problem (which is very seldom caused by the ramps in an AR)...as far as safety, from the photo you posted, the lug integrity looks good, maybe compare your barrel to an unbastardised copy and make your own judgement. KBs are rare in an AR and the working bits are shielded in a goodly amount of forged aluminum...take this post for what it is worth, I am not a gunsmith nor do I play one on TV....that being said, what length is the barrel and if you don't trust it, I have $20 that ain't doing much...:D

I believe the idea is to improve projectile feeding patterns under high rates of fire...not something we generaly need to worry about with 5 round mags:rolleyes:

u should be ok but like others have said bubba strikes again
Being you were talkign of selling it thats where your issue is,maybe fine if you were keeping it, but seling it you may not get top $ for it

Its not a 5 rounds thing, its reliability in full auto and burst mode. Semi-auto fire never even comes close to the 450-600 rounds per second that these ramps were meant to address.

That's kinda what I meant by "high rates of fire".;) And 450 rounds per second!!! Thats 27000 rpm!!! I'd take one of them there M4 miniguns!!!:p :D
