Emilio613's CZ858 (and other gun) CAMO PAINT GUIDE!

Sweet job! I like yours more than my own even!

I feel like I contributed to something...*wipes tear*

Glad I could help :)

**EDIT: now that I look at yours again, I think for my next gun that I paint, I am going to use the same pattern aka juniper, not long pine needles. Just for a little something different! I like how yours looks. My CZ seems more suited for long grass/coyote terrotroy. Yours seems right at home in a thicket somewhere in a forest stalking deer and bear. I may have to try it out, change my colours around a bit. I just need another gun to paint. LOL ***

just beautiful ! You just inspired me for my next project:50cal:

Have one of these guns and receiver is jammed so will not pop open to take internals out. Also case gets stuck in barrel every shot I take. Shell ejector breaks off edge of case and have to pound case out of barrel. Maybe have 100 rounds through gun. Any ideas or had problem with your gun?

I have NEVER heard of that issue with the CZ858.... Solution: talk to the dealer you bought it from (if you got it new) and ask for an exchange. Seems like a fluke to me

you'll get better response if you started a thread about your problem . this thread is about painting.

How did you disassemble the pinned magazines for prep and painting?
The pin prevents me from removing the spring/follower, is there any sort of trick?

Honestly? I didn't. I simply masked off the entire area that enters the receiver when loaded into the gun (so above the metal "ridge" that divides what sticks out of the receiver when loaded).

Once that was masked off, I just used brake degreaser, some sanding, and some more brake degreaser. I spray painted them fully assembled, and had no paint go inside. The mags all work as well as they did from the factory :)

Simple enough, still trying to find a way to disassemble these mags, got one with feeding issues with the follower contacting the walls of the magazine and failing to rise quick enough to trip the bolt hold open.

Hmmmmm... I am thinking something is causing friction and making it rise too slowly, like something simple like too thick paint layers, or something a little more complex like poor machining/edge finishing (deburring).

I guess you'd have to ask in the forum (the Red Rifle one, aka the one this thread is in) and see what they have to say!

This thread insipred me to paint some stuff.

My first test was the Snipler.

My second test was a bunch of Magpul stuff and a broken mag I had laying around, which I put on an XCR for show.

Here are the results. The mag got smudged when I thought it was dry and it wasn't (other side of mag is way better), and the grip is a little darker on the side I photos. Also, the XTR panels are a ##### to put together after painting. I should have put them 1/2 way together, then painted them. The XTRs are just held in place by gravity for photos only. THey don't fit with the AFG1 in place anyway.

Will be doing 2 more variations on other rail covers, grips and AFGs, just because I have all this paint and parts left and need to do something with it.

Due to lighting, it's hard to see the detail in some angles, so here are three pics, one with the flash on.

The white in this picture is not white that I missed, it's reflected light.

See my nice fingerprint smudges on the magazine? Sigh.

Hhahaah don't sweat the smudges! Nothing in nature is perfect, and camo is not supposed to be perfect anyway!

I LOVE the snipler. That made my day, especially the marketing pitch, about taking out a dictator and restoring peace in the Middle East! :p

Looks good though! Did you use a mesh to get the net pattern?

PS YES, always keep things as "together" as possible for painting...other wise the paint layers up, makes it thicker, and you just can't get any of the parts to get together smoothly! (hence why I left the handguards on the gun when I painted my CZ, and just taped up any openings/the piston and internals)

I now have an NEA top rail handguard on it, but whatever... a little black didn't hurt my rifle haha.
