EMT Only to Buy a Sporting Rifle?

Personally, I work 12 hour days out on remote sites, at least an hour from home every day. I'm outta town before the rest of the world wakes up and get home after they have eaten supper. Emt is the safest and easiest way for me to deal. It doesn't make sense for me to go take time off work to mess around with other payment types. It also saves anyone who lives in a rural area, a trip to town. If using emt saves someone $20 in gas then why would they do it any other way?

It's the seller's choice what he takes for payment. If he wants to limit the market for himself then he has the right to do so.

Seller has the right to set his own terms. Prospective buyer has the right to walk away if he doesn't like the terms. People who purposely choose not to use EMT have to live within the limits of their own decisions.

I really like the speed of EMT, and very few MO show up in 3 days or less. Just doesn't work that way when you consider weekends and such. I still take MO, cash, & cheques. I will consider home made cookies or beer for trades but that doesn't mean everyone has to.

I wouldn't want to put someone on the spot like that... Why should someone have to wait for me to scrape up cash when they could sell their gun to another gunnut who has cash in hand? It's not about the instant gratification factor, it's the simple fact that business is business and money talks and bull#### walks...

I have held guns for several cgn'rs in the past (providing they have good trader ratings)... But I have also had to deal with the excuses when they couldn't come through with the cash... "My car broke down"... "I got sick and couldn't go to work so my pay was small"... Etc etc... I am all for being compassionate but really, if you have no cushion in the bank or savings behind you you shouldn't be buying a gun...

May not be that they don't have the money, but that they don't want to dip into the savings for the gun (maybe the wife keeps a tight reign on the savings account) or whatever. All the people I have held guns and gear for have came through and if they wouldn't have, it wouldn't bother me, I'd just repost the gun and carry on.

Don't get me wrong, I love EMT and cash on demand. But waiting don't bother me either. A couple months ago I bought a Mark 4 6X40 M3 off a hudderite fella and had to go make a postal M/O up and mail it. Big whoop.

FWIW, most of the complaints about fraud involve EMT payments.

Exactly why I do not use EMT for a purchase. When I mail off a money order it goes to a name and address that can be tracked if necessary. I would rather spend a little extra on fast postage than lose it all to a scam.

Another thing that bugs me are the fellows that only want inquires by text. What is wrong with email or the phone?

EMT is the only way I ever pay (or accept in the case of me selling stuff). Safe, convenient, and the funds are out of your bank account immediately (or within 1/2 hour). Personally, I don't buy something I cannot afford at the moment -- meaning I don't use plastic.

i found the easiest solution to this EMT fiasco. i will send a Moneygram from the post office. the seller can pack the gun and in a single trip, he does both chores. Pick up payment and send product. If the PO does not have enough cash, awhh boo boo...they give a postal money order which is like cash. I have lost funds thru the EMT route and i have ignored the EMT only ads in the EEs. I would rather work with a person willing to work on payment with me. Wanna sell it...then be open to other methods. This is my humble opinion. Small town banks and credit unions do not have EMT so we lacking the service do state up front what we can do. Dont like my money, do not sell it to me...someone else will gain by it.

Welll I don't think I'd refuse to sell to someone who couldn't EMT, but I guarantee you I've been interested in a lot of different guns and completely changed my mind when the seller wouldn't accept an EMT...

I prefer EMT but it's not that big a deal if it can't be done. Like many things, the EE worked fine prior to EMT too. On a similar note, I'm not even sure if EMT is available in the USA.

It's a convenience thing really. If I'm selling, chances are I'm buying something else, EMT in, EMT out.

What the hell... you read through an add that piques your interest be it a hunting rifle or maybe a rimfire and at the end is the price and "EMT only". WTF? I'm going to guess that that just lost about half of the potential buyers that like me haven't bothered to get set up, or don't want to get set up, or don't trust $ending dollar$ over the intrawebs or for whatever reason can't do an Electronic Money Transfer.

Can't people wait 3 days tops on a promise that a Postal Money order is on the way? Are people really that addicted to the instant fix of the internet? WTF do they think they gain by getting the money transferred electronically over a certified MO in the mail there's no risk to them at this point  I think people are getting too addicted to their two phones and couple computers and life by the internet not willing to wait for anything. Or maybe they just don't give a #### about selling the gun. I don't know. Rant over. thank-you

I would suggest it's more like 1% of people who won't EMT funds, a Postal Money Order is a huge pain. Why would you want to go to the post office, buy the Money order, snailmail it and then expect the guy to go to the bank, make sure it's not fake or a forgery(happens) wait for the funds to clear before he goes back to the post office to send you your gun?

I don't do EMT. I live in a small town, and I have asked all the banks in town and they all said they don't offer emt. I am not sure if they are right or just dont know what it is, but its what they told me. I know I have lost deals both selling and buying - But it is what it is. to me money orders and bank drafts are where it's at.

EMT is the least likely to be fraudulent... I have gotten ripped of by postal money order and certified cheque... I'll stick with EMT and do business with those that do likewise... If that's not you then C'est la vie.

Some credit unions don't offer EMT but if you have any of the mainstream banks in your town and they offer on-line banking...then they offer EMT. It's not something extra you have to sign up for.

I strongly prefer EMT for buying and selling!

However, can you tell us a bit more about your experience with ---> postal money orders and certified cheques fraud,
so we know better what to watch out for?

Cheers,
Dan

The Certified Cheque was a forgery... The bank caught it (10 days later)... But I was waiting on clearance and had not shipped the gun yet. The money order was also a fake... In that case I had shipped the product, but the US Postal service was apparently embarassed enough by the forgery of their product and they covered the face value of the money order... But it took six months.
