Enfield Buff's: Blonde in a Box at door today!

I've always wanted to trace the steps of the old timers. I thought; wouldn't it be great to sportize a lee-enfield just like they did in the old days. It seems to me that the most authentic experience would come from working on a rifle as close to stock as possible. How much you want for it?

Yes it's 7.62. I'm actually third owner. The original owner is a retired RCMP SGT. here on Vancouver Island. I've had it about four years and have yet to shoot it! Might actually take it out tomorrow.
Manitou210 and I were members of Stittsville,ON range back in the 80's and likely shared a shooting bench at some point. You have a lovely rifle there Manitou.

Which would explain the MP stamp.

Is there a list comprehensive list of MP marked rifles online anywhere? I have one in the 21L range I'm wondering if it is genuine.

Nice maple stocks on both by the look of it.

There is now! :D If some of the numbers are unclear then save the picture and zoom in, this was the best I could do. These are from Arms & Accoutrements of the Mounted Police 1873-1973, Phillips & Klancher.

Thanks a lot! I'm not on the list, but what do you think of the stamp? The rifle is in excellent shape, (flash makes finish look different), a few hundred rounds through it I'd say.

To me it looks like a typical MP stamp. They weren't to careful in aligning the stamp in any particular way. Most of the ones I've seen are at odd angles and not in the exact same place. As mentioned in pm this list is all that I know of that remains of any records. I've heard of some fake MP rifles floating around, but also that some serial number records were lost. Hopefully someone else can chime in on this. (RNWMP pm sent) It would be nice to prove authenticity but I'm not sure how one could if it is not listed in the book.

For comparison this is mine and is on the list. (7L5266, top of page 193)

I just thought of this. Here is a copy of an original sales receipt from the RCMP to Lever Arms (thanks to RNWMP for the pic). I haven't checked to ensure all the numbers for this document are in the Phillips & Klancher book; it could be possible that some are on this receipt that aren't in the book. I'm sure there are other sales receipts out there from who ever else bought them, but this is the only version I've ever seen.

Thanks for the scan Vimy Ridge. My recently acquired 43 LB MP stamped rifle does not appear on that list. :(
