Hi guys:

Just came across an 1922 Enfield with a No1 Mk III nose piece, but the rear site is on the back of the receiver, like the No4 rather than on the rear of the barrel like the No1 Mk III. After a lot of searching I'm thinking this is a SMLE Mark V. I've never seen one before, so of course I could be wrong. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera so I was unable to take a picture.
If this truly is an Enfield SMLE Mark V, how rare is it because like I said I’ve never seen or even heard of one before. Also does any one have any idea on what be price for one that looks to be in good condition? Oh and before any one asks, the owner is not interested in selling and if he does I’m 1st in line!

Very rare. If original $1200 in poor condition to $2500 in excellent condition. You won't see many of these around.

The Mark V is one example of British firearm design and thought track on the way towards the No 4 Mk I and Mk I *. I have never seen a Mark V in person, only on the internet and primarily off of the Lee Enfield Rifle website. Count yourself being one of the lucky few to have seen and held (?) one.

I think, as far as the design goes, the Mark V was the post war hybrid of the SMLE and Pattern 1914 in typical SMLE trim for the most part. Very unusual looking and, if I remember correctly from my readings, expensive to produce.

The next time you are around at your friend's place, do us all a favour and snap a few pictures :D.

they were dated 22,23 and 24. I think the value quoted is a BIT optimistic to say the least. Most have very dark stocks and about 50% are mismatched. They trickled back to North America in surplus arms shipments from India and most Indian stocks are oil soaked and black as tar.....

What attributes did they take off the P14 besides the receiver sight?

Does anyone know if the barrel is free floating or tied down like that of the No 1 Mk IIIs ?
Same as the MkIII
