Canadian Issued SMLE No 1. Mk III (1918)

My Pride and Joy!

While I don't have the nice background that Grant has...this is my Canadian Issued and marked No. 1 Mk III with a bayonet marked:

2RCC
RCE
272

I think the markings refer to the 272 Royal Canadian Engineers - 2 Royal Canadian Corps (can anyone confirm this? Grant?)

Thanks...Dan

Mr. Nashorn
Hang onto that No1Mk3
It does you proud.
I would be honoured to own such an icon of Cdn military history.

Be well my Brothers.

Very nice No. 1, nashorn!

Not sure I can help with the bayonet markings -
try your question on the "CANUCK" forum:

I think the 272 is likely a "rack number" - i.e. unit number assigned to a particular rifle and accoutrements.

Thanks for the suggestion Grant...and thanks for sharing the beautiful pics of your rifles...I need to get a fancy background for my "baby" as opposed to placemats on the kitchen table! :D

From the top:

1915 BSA MkIII- mag cut-off, volley sights, windage adjustable rear sights, original leather sling, brass oiler marked same as Butt Disk. Unfortunately the bolt was changed at some point otherwise it would be all matching.

1943 Long Branch- All matching

1954 Fazakerly Mk2- Irish contract, bolt mis-matched

1945 Faz No5- All matching. Have the proper issue scabbard as well.

1942 Savage- Restoration in progress.
