Okay, I'll play

Now, before I get flamed for what i have done to this 1913 BSA SHTLE 3* , I offer this as my excuse. The rifle came to me in the stock it is in and a badly damaged crown. the front sight was badly damaged but otherwise the bore was exceptional. The trigger and bolt interface had been bubba'd badly to the point where the rifle was dangerous. I dug into my parts bins and scrounged here on the EE for donor bolt and trigger parts and came up golden.
I completely stripped the rifle after many soaks in never sieze and varsol. The barrel was a buuger but my handy dandy barrel vice and action wrench won out in the end. I stripped the entire finish and reassembled the rifle, replacing needed parts as i went. In the end I tuned the trigger, headspaced the bolt, slugged the barrel, and reassembled to the stock without the sights and the barrel trimmed and crowned at 19.5 inches.
Next came what to do with the sights as there was none. As this was to be a bush rifle from the get go, I opted for a scope mount. Handily enough this bubba was already drilled and tapped for the weaver TO-1 dovetail rail. Well, I hate that mount..... dove tails aren't for .30 cal rifles :D So i machined up a custom 1913 milspec aluminum picatinny rail, slotted and detailed for the receiver bridge and profiled to fit the receiver ring. Once fitted and trued, I used the pre existing hole pattern for the TO-1 and installed my rail, loctiting the machine screws in place.
At this point I had a very short, funny looking rifle, the varnished bishop monte carlo stock contrasted big time with the modernized appearance of the rifle...... so, seen as i am already custom painting m14 stocks these days, I applied one of my hand sprayed custom camo finishes to the entire rifle, action, stock, optics and all. Added a bipod after the fact.
I completed this proect in early october and managed two nice mule deer one at 150 yrds and the other in the 200 yrd ballpark. Have taken 7 deer with this rifle in it's before and after state.
enjoy these pics of my SHTLE tactical :D and flame away.... if you must

I will weigh it right now. I am in fishing derbies/tournaments throughout the year and my digital scale is "officially accurate" to the 1/8 oz :D for what it's worth.

editted to add..... it weighs 9 lbs with a loaded 10 rnd mag and 8lbs 6 ounces unloaded mag

Now I know some people may give me sh*t for saying this, but it looks good! Some times these rifles are 'beyond salvage' and need to be 'worked with' to have some life left in them after Bubba gets his greasy hands on them (I'm implying that Bubba is who chopped the rifle in the 1st place). The stock looks great - one day we may talk....So, good job! May she harvest a few more deer in her time!

PS - Lou, I'm sorry!!

The PSG-N0.4 Mk.1 !

I like it! Ha!

Did you comission that project or did you buy it like that? What are the spec's? Barrel, stock, bolt knob, etc?

I bought the gun on Nutz with the synthetic stock on, the barrel installed, the scope mount, and the bolt knob done. I actually did all the work on the back end myself. I machined the adapter out of UHMW plastic. I had tried making one out of aluminum, like the one I did for my Ithaca, but made the measurements wrong. I decided to use plastic to make the project go faster, and test out the idea. I could make another from metal yet, but am not sure about continuing. I am planning on selling the gun together or in parts, to finance some other hair-brained idea. Just goes to prove what some people can do with a milling machine when they channel Bubba . . .
