I do not claim to be a long range shooter. In fact most that frequent this thread will likely yawn at the distance I will want to shoot this set up at. But hunting most of my shots have been under 100yds and only a couple up to 200. That said want to stretch out a little further to start. My local range goes out to 400. Thing is I am not in the best of health and shake a little more than most might due to health and meds. That said I also have started reloading so that has me wanting to stretch my skills a bit. I have been shooting for 20-25 years but have never had any bolt rifle more expensive or set up than an average hunting Tikka T3/Ruger M77 MKII .30-06 with a Bushnell or Leupold 3-9 or 4-12 etc over the years.
Lately I have been smacking the smaller gong with my .30-06 at 400 yds and it has given me the bug to get a little better rig. I am on disability and wanted something that I could still possibly take hunting as well and not be a beast. So I just purchased a Remington 700 Urban Tac .308 with 20" barrel and Warn scope rail and HS Precision stock from SFRC during their Black Friday sale today. I am pairing it with a Zeiss Conquest HD5 3-15X42 scope with Z-600 reticle that I got one sale from Reliable Gun for a couple hundred off and a set of Warne Tactical rings. Will it serve me well for what I have intended? I will never be reaching out real far maybe up to 600 or so target shooting, but is it a good balance between value and performance? It has the 1-12 twist barrel what would be the best bullet weight to focus on for accuracy? Personally I think it will be more precise than I will ever be able to be, but wanted some feedback and your guys thoughts on it. I don't have it in my possession or set up yet so no pics hopefully not a problem
PS: Also is the Warne scope rail that comes with the Urban Tac a 20 MOA rail or 0 MOA? It didn't say in any of the info from those selling it. Thanks
