get the shadow 1 or 2 shoot production, or 1911 9mm and shoot classic.
 
I just saw that SFRC has the SP01 Shadow on sale with 3 mags for $910 and free shipping, that's a pretty decent price I'd say. Edit to add that I just got an email from them saying they're doing 15% off everything until Aug. 7, so under $775 now.

At your price range CZ Shadow is by far your best all round value IPSC competition ready gun. It will take you a long way in IPSC Production division, 3 Gun and think it’s also likely IDPA legal.
 
Ok everyone new question time!
I have been looking over the internet for pricing on new Shadows etc, i have come across a few different variants of the shadow and wish to hear everyone opinion on them.

Any tips or insight is always welcome!

I would not buy the polymer Phantom Shadow for IPSC. It’s really to light a frame. And the FOC Australian version seems to have a longer protruding 5” barrel than a normal CZ Shadow SP01. Don’T have any experience with this one but guessing it should be okay...as long as it’s on the approved IPSC Production list. Suggest you check before you buy.

I started shooting ipsc with the CZ Shadow sp01. Great gun and lots available used on the EE in your price range. But if you can afford a bit more, suggest you look at the Shadow 2. If you get serious about IPSC you’ll likely end up buying this gun eventually.
 
The first version you have shown is the Australian version with a longer barrel to meet Aussie laws, which some IPSC shooters have installed in their Shadow 1's, and I think it is similar in length to the Shadow 2
 
If youre thinking of getting into IPSC,buying the gun is actually the cheap part of the excercise compared to ammo costs,holsters,belts,match fees,training courses which all add up quickly,so I would suggest,after looking and trying out a few different guns,buy the one you want,even if its a bit more than your initial budget.Ive seen many shooters over the years start with a suboptimal gun,only to get rid of it a few months later,losing money along the way, to get something better.Shadows are great,the shadow 1s are a great deal,but I think the 2's are even better,cant really go wrong with either.Theres a reason that the vast majority of production shooters are using them.
 
Ok guys another question! you have sold me on the Shadow, but! I am a dirty lefty and from what i can see the shadow does not have a left handed slide release. Will it really cause a problems for me in competition or do i just need to train to rack the slide with my right hand rather then with the release? Any with left handed experience would be greatly apprenticed!

It’s easy to hit the slide release with your left hand first finger or overhand rack with your right hand. ( Not Canuck44’s preferred method...hi Bob!)
I’ve seen CZ slides drop when loading a mag too but not sure if this is true of all Shadows.
Failing all else, the CZ85 has an ambi slide stop so I’m sure you can find one for the Shadow.
 
don't worry about an ambi or left hand slide release, in IPSC you try to do your mag changes so that you don't go to slide lock and if you do it is usually easier to rack the slide. My Tanfo open gun doesn't even have a slide lock notch on the slide from the factory

Depends on how valuable your hand is I guess. ;)

To others the Shadow2 is to heavy for IDPA. Empty it weighs north of 47oz. Maximum weight for the pistol divisions is 43 oz.

With the new rules for IPSC ie lower minimum trigger pull weights for striker fired pistols you are going to see more of the striker fired guns in IPSC Producton. It will be interested what the scores look like among club shooters. I am sure it will increase participation in IPSC. Not everyone likes shooting DA/SA pistols.

Yes, more striker fired guns will show up in Prod. Can't see it doing too much though since it's more about the shooter. Some friends have been changing divisions just to keep things fresh, so I expect we'll see some people hopping into Prod with their aftermarket triggered striker fired guns.

If someone didn't shoot IPSC at all because of the fear of getting beat by a "Shadow", then they are probably the type to make excuses for just about anything and wouldn't get anywhere in the sport anyhow. :)
 
Golly, I wish I had read this thread before I bought my Sig Sauer. Why don't people like Sig? 226 or 320? They are so easy to field strip and clean...

Gonna research CZ Shadow now but curious why people don't like SS.

There is nothing wrong with Sigs. But compared to Shadows, they are not as good in the speed game. The controls, weight balance and lower bore axis of the CZ gives it an advantage. The Sig is a fine gun. Just a different purpose. There are lots of people running both the 226 and 320 in IDPA.

My SP-01 Shadow definitely does this when I slam a mag in aggressively. Which I do on purpose, so it will release the slide. I see it as a bonus timesaver, lol. But then again I tend to keep the barrel horizontal and just rotate my wrist so I can see the magwell when I do my mag changes.
