EO-Tech Vs. Aimpoint

S&B who was really the world leader and the expected front runner in the 1-8x race, missed the start, and appears not to be interested (at least seriously) in the race -- every version of their 1-8x Short Dot makes me less and less interested in them as an optics company.

I still like the 1-4x Short Dot - but the 1-6 Mk6 from leupy does more better.

The 1.1-8x Mk8 CQBSS from Leupold is not the ideal sight on a 5.56mm gun from my opinion - as one can see from SGM Steve Alderman's article in Sniper it was designed for a 16" 7.62mm gun

I was actually interested in this unit until I saw the MSRP between $4000 and $4600 USD -- with the $600 difference being a different reticle :rolleyes:

Sorry, none of these scopes justify that type of cost.

They still do special contract runs for larger end users (i.e. NSWC) last I heard.

The vast majority of commercial orders were for the 32mm version, made killing the 24mm version an easy choice, especially considering how badly back ordered NF is.

I really like the look of the 2.5-10x24 compared to the 32.

This is all we can do without an ITAR violation at the moment. 1-6X, 30mm tube.

I've got this on the 16.5" 6940, and left the Spectre on the 14.5" 6940.

Test drive to follow.

I'm waiting to find another KAC 600m BUIS. I've got one on the other 3 uppers, so might as well stick with what I know.

The new Leupold Mk6 1-6x is smaller and lighter - and frankly a better scope (given the Short Dot is 15 years old - no surprise)

I did an interview with the Canadian distributor for Leupold at Huntfest. Tune in for information on the Mk6 1-6X. It will drop on the network podcast feed. Episode should be on the server early next week. It is a very cool product.
 
I used to use an aimpoint M68 cco mounted on a C8FTHB for everything. When everyone else was changing batteries in their eotechs before a patrol, I simply verified that my aimpoint was still turned on. I leave it turned on for the entire deployment... All 7 months of it. I prefer the simple red dot to the circle because the circle always seems blurry to my eyes. I think that aimpoint now mounted to an xcr is still turned on. Same battery since 2004. I keep a spare in the little compartment on the side of the mount. 2 is 1 you know.
 
Although I love the Aimpoint for work in town, I discovered I was at a disadvantage in Positively Identification of targets in the fields or hills outside of town. Soldiers with Elcan C79's were stealing my targets and engaging before I could get PID (enraging and unacceptable) now I use ACOG for all applications. Simple, rugged, BDC for my barrel length, and holds a zero despite my poor treatment. I also provided one to one of my C9 gunners while the other gunner used irons.
 
I guess I should hang onto my VX3 1.5-5.

A couple of people have mentioned the Trijicon 1-4, I tried one an thought it was amazing for a 1000 bucks. Super clear and easy to use both eyes open on low magnification but with no batteries.

You have to try it to believe it and good price.
 
Strange. I used an EOTech on a "duty gun" in a very hostile environment, for an extended period of time. I suppose that was recreational use, and not professional?

I'm wondering how much difference there will be with the Mk6 as opposed to this VX6? Other than double the price, and then some, what will the Mk6 offer? Maybe a different reticule, but this one is what I would want anyway. I don't do that much work with a BDC in a 5.56 as it is, so would it be worth the extra $1400?
Extra cool knurled objective for turning, no gold band to keep the tactic cool guys happy:D, no white letters......

Anybody know?
 
I played with the Mk6 1-6x at SHOT. It's no CQBSS, but it is pretty nice.

Forgiving eyebox @ 6x, I like the CMR-W, not too heavy, great glass, good illumination, ubersized/extended power ring, and best of all, incredibly fast @ 1x. BDC turrets are a bonus.

All of these scopes come with a coupon to order from Leupold a 'custom' BDC turrets. Leupold says if I send them my ammo and gun specs they will send me the turrets free of charge. I might do it just for the fact it's free and I like the ammo I shoot. These stock turrets already are 1/4 moa clicks, and that is exact what I need/want.

I should just paint the entire scope gold to match the ring:p

I've been playing backyard commando with this thing, and so far, I really like it. The 1X is very fast and I like the illuminated dot in the middle.
 
Since this thread has wandered off of EOTech or Aimpoint equipment...
I have both an EOTech (XPS2) and Aimpoint (PRO) and both are sitting back in their boxes on the shelf in favor of better sights on all of my rifles.

My favorite CQ black rifle has a Leupold Prismatic 1x on it: much better glass than the EOTech and especially the Aimpoint (bad coloring); fixed reticle with user-controlled red lighting so it even works without batteries; smaller than the Aimpoint PRO; better built than either EOTech or Aimpoint (Aimpoint mount is poorly machined); battery life comparable to EOTech; properly co-witnesses with the BUIS.

And neither the EOTech or Aimpoint will co-witness with the LPA sights on my shotgun either.
 
The Mk6 scopes are not ITAR controlled - the CMR-W reticle is not deemed a military reticle (albiet neither is the Horus) and the Mk6 does not have the glass witchcraft that is in the Mk8's that make them ITAR verbotten to Canada (for non LE/Mil purchases).
