Wow. At the risk of adding to the flames and sounding like an XCR fanboy.... I own an XCR-L in 5.56 (also have the 7.62x39 conversion kit) with the latest upgrade package. Before I bought it I was a bit leery of what was being said about Rob Arms and the XCR series, but I'm glad I took the chance because I've had zero performance issues since I got it. In fact, it's so tight I have to lube the ever-living snot out of the the barrel to get it to slide in. Maybe it's an early model trait? I dunno. As for eliminating play or loose bits, some high temp lock-tight and a good tightening of the retention screw and that barrel will not budge. I've put more than 1k rounds through it so far and had no issues. The barrel is tight, no stoppages, no performance failures that I didn't cause myself, nadda.
I also have no issues with accuracy, probably contribute-able to the bull-barrel and the tight tolerances and I will say this, it's one heavy pig with that bull-barrel on it compared to an AR, but I'm willing to live with the weight if it means I get more life out of it. I've run both a 1-4x optic and red-dot and had no issues hitting my intended target out to 300m. Now here's where I expect to take some heat. As mentioned this rifle was designed to be a modular COMBAT rifle entry in US trial replacements for the M16/M4 AR platform (wait for it....) and didn't make the cut. So what? It's still available to you and me and it's a damn good alternative to AR's an AK's. Most people are only against buying XCR's (aside from the price) because all they know are AR's and aren't willing to take the plunge, it's kinda like the stigma that followed AK's in the US until people starting doing drills, relays and competitions with them, now they're everywhere. But I digress. When I go to the range I don't expect spectacular groupings at 300m, because I'm realistic about a combat rifle's capabilities. I run it as it was intended, for close to medium range engagement. Yes yes I'll drop to prone once in a while to mess around with some longer shots, however, it was designed as a center-of-mass combat rifle and it WILL give you center-of-mass results.
My advice to anyone expecting better from ANY combat rifle, be realistic. I know it's fun to push a platform to it's limits but if you want to reach out and touch something with MOA accuracy beyond 200m, get a good bolt rifle, a good scope, some match ammo and be done with it. /endrant lol
All that being said, back to the OP's problem. It seems to me that if the OP has tolerance issues so bad that he's considering an epoxy job, then the firearm should be sent back to the retailer or manufacturer for maintenance or replacement, or take it to a gunsmith and see what can be done. Either way tolerances that bad, especially with regards to the barrel system, spells more risk than it's worth to start monkeying around. Get it professionally dealt with.
