European mount help

Not sure about bleach, I have 2 european mounts done by 2 different people and both used peroxide. The 2nd turned out much cleaner and whiter but I gave him some of the peroxide I use for work, industrial strength 35% not like the 3% stuff you get at the pharmacy!

I'm a big fan of the euro mount, cheap, looks cool and less maintenance.

If you live on a large enough piece of land to keep it away from the house, the maceration method works really well. Changing the water every few days seems to prolong the process a bit, but helps keep the smell down. Use well-water or water from some other non-chlorinated source. A thorough soak and clean up with water and dish soap at the end gets rid of the last of the grease that causes the yellowish colouration.

If bleaching in the sun doesn't get the bone white enough for you, then use the peroxide. Bleach will dissolve and weaken the bone.

Once it's done and thoroughly dry, "painting" it with a watered-down solution of white glue will strengthen the bone and give a nice smooth finished feel to it.

I've boiled a fair number of skulls in the past, but I find this method easier, cheaper, and much less destructive to the bone. A well-executed DIY euro-mounted skull makes a great trophy.
