Ever Buy Dies for Which You Have No Gun?

When our local gunshop here hired new staff and lowered most prices to match Wholesale prices, I bought 5 sets of dies and bullets just because.
I have 700-800 284 bullets and no gun in that caliber.
2 rifles down and 3 more to go.:D

it's like anything else.... you have thought about owning that caliber, or a particular firearm, came across a real sweet deal on an accessory, or, in this case dies, and could not pass on it. This only furthers the need to aquire the item for which it belongs subliminally -> perfectly normal gun nut behaviour!! Hell, I noticed a thread today where someone has a KNOXX specops stock for a remmy 870, but no gun to go on yet. yes, absolutely normal, if not healthy IMO!

Wondering if there's anybody like me that has ever bought a set if dies, not having a gun in that particular cartridge yet, because "I might one day" or because the die set itself was too good a deal to pass up?

Just did this at a gun show this past weekend.... For me it was a combo of "I might get a gun in that ctg one day AND the die set was too good a deal to pass up....
:runaway:

Well, please tell us, for what caliber?

I bought an "as new" set of Lee carbide dies in .45 GAP this past weekend at one of our local gunshows.... I have no pistol in .45 GAP and no plans to get one... but I do have a cool source for once fired .45 GAP brass, though... Hmmmmm...................

I'll add myself to the "done it" list. It's a good thing because it creates a void which demands filling. While most wives fully grasp this concept in the context of clothes closets and shoe racks, sadly, only a few are able to transfer their understanding to the realm of firearms.

Me too, although not intentionally (maybe subconsciously tho) bought a used press that came with .270 (that I needed) and .30-30 (not YET) dies, holders, brass, and a few bullets. But everyone needs a .30-30 right? Sure!
(I have also thought about stockpiling brass and bullets, and some carbide dies for when I get my 1911.) :)

No... but I did buy a pair of mags for a gun I don't own yet... does that count?
...no ..that doesn't count... that is like an RRSP .... it is a frugal investment!

Yup. I think I even posted a "WTB" thread for a set of 350 Rem Mag dies. I had the dies months before I actually got the rifle. It was motivation, I guess.:D Besides, I had loads ready to go for when the gun did show up.

I think I still have a set of 270win and 243win dies kicking around too...you never know.;):D

.

Actually I haven't done that.... but I like the way you fellas think!

Anyone here have some 7wsm dies they don't need anymore?......That feels better already!

It's happened to me twice and both times I ended up trading or selling them before I got a rifle for them. Heck, my 458 dies were the very first thing I sold here!
I sure seem to have alot of dies for calibers I no longer have, but just in case it is safer to keep them than to regret their sale down the road.
