I 'm really not sure where this post should be but I came across a video about cut shells. A way to turn a 12ga scatter load into a kind of slug.
Sounds kinda of black or green.

Since I post videos so infrequently I've forgotten how again, in any event have a look

Come on guys, it's just a question. That's what a forum is for, no?

The consensus is, no-no. I've never tried it and likely won't. I'm sure the vid will show you how, but probably doesn't show the obvious; outside diameter of the shell vs the inside diameter of the barrel.
It'll be cheaper to buy slugs. ;)

I'm not familear with the drama... but yes I've heard of them and I've cut a few when I was younger. didn't fly very accurately though probably effective at very close range.

I just cut through the shell in the area where the wad has it's cushion, but stopped with about 1/18" of hull so it didn't fall into 2 pieces. shot it and the whole piece comes out like a slug. Cant tell you if it's fine, or if it will ruin anything.. but my guns seemed to survive the occasional one.

I have cut many a shell, works great for casual use. Cyl choke only in 12gauge,

but I cut some 20gauge for my H&R , and it`s a modified choke. no problems.
cheaper to buy slugs? i don`t understand that.

Store bought slugs = serious shooting/hunting "for reals"

cut shells= casual use or for fun's sake.

Also on the diameter statement, uuuummm chokes? the projectile is shaped to bore. it's actually how a shotgun choke works. not sure what problem is being refered to. It's not a 12 gauge carbide slug, it's flimsy plastic.

I would feel very comfortable using a cut shell for defensive purposes(bear?) up close. Even with birdshot, when cut- all the energy is right there waiting to be transferred to target. Glaser safety slugs work on this principal.

*sarcasm mode activated*
.....Flimsy plastic packed with flimsy plastic packed with lead/steel that is about .050" too big for the bore..... If you are gonna try this one you might just as well forget everything about safety or reloading for that matter...what's a MAX pressure load for anyway? Bah it'll handle that and more?!
Don't be afraid to load a 3 1/2 into a 2 3/4 only chamber either. Or a 12/20 combo while you are at it.
I do it all the time with my carbon fiber barreled skeet gun and plate carrier, combat blast helmet. Got most of my teeth and fingers still too!

Wow, I feel stoopid;)

Of course it's a good idea, running a bastardized slug through a 20 inch choke.
I'm going out to try something new, I'll place a .223 round halfway down the barrel of my .308 to see if the .308 bullet will fire the .223

Hold my beer and watch this.....

I've done it a bunch. They shoot surprisingly straight and hit hard. Feeding can be problematic, they might be best suited to break actions.

A useful thing to know about, much cheaper than slugs!
