Everyone is making 1911's now........

Epps got some Colts in.

They just got their Springfield 1911s in as well. They seem o.k. But don't scream 'Best in Class'...seeing how they are made in the same factory as Taurus (so I hear) :)

Both Springfield (except for some high end models) and Taurus are made in Brazil, but not in the same factory. Springfields are made by Imbel.

Grips.... they're not gettin' the grips right....

Of the new Ithaca, STI and this offering I'm liking this one the best. Even though Iver Johnson never made a 1911/1911A1 back in the day. Hoever, they even got the GI thumb safety retro looking with this model.

I still say they gotta ditch the grips for some GI type dark brown plastic ones.

Geez, I wonder if Keyes [GI grip manufacturer] is gonna go back into business with this plethora of GI repro models that are gonna flood the market. Wonder who's got the "rights" to produce Keyes grips?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........................................ :)

The funny thing is, most of these new 1911s are essentially the same gun made in the same factory in the Philippines. Armscor, Tanfoglio, STI Spartan, Iver Johnson, Charles Daly, Rock Island....and I'm sure there's a few others that I can't think of right now.
True, so true.:agree:

I met with them in the SHOT Show.

I will be the Canadian dealer of their very reasonable priced G.I. brown checkered grips. And I have asked them to work on OD green and desert tan, too. Plus the white they had already made. Those grips look very interesting on various 1911s.

Pictures will be up in a couple of days.

Nice :)

IMO Taurus is the best deal on a 1911 out there (esp stainless model). Forged frame, slide and barrel plus all the add ons. GI is alright, but if you can have all the extras for the same price I'm sure most people would gladly go for it :)

Hopefully, the brown will be the right shade of dark brown in the repro grips. Can't wait to see the pics...

And those that are looking for an authentic looking GI 1911A1 at a reasonable price get very disappointed when the makers don't make them correct looking... ;)

I think most people could accept a G.I. Government model as it is and won't complain too much.

When it comes to a "modernized" 1911 with all the mods, we have very different tastes. For myself, I love the Springfield "Loaded" in stainless, and hate Paras and STIs (because they change too much). But there must be plenty of people feel just the opposite.

So it makes sense to see so many new G.I.s being made these days. But as NAA said, at least they should make them right with all the correct parts.

Don't knock the taurus too hard, I have one and it's as good as some of my others.

Some of these firms have a historical link to the 1911, having manufactured them during the war when Colt couldn't keep up. Maybe International Harvester could make a come-back marketing their version.
